Shrimp night

   Friday, June 1 - Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39, located on Fourth Avenue in Roebling, will have its last shrimp night until September from 5:30 p.m. until supplies sell out. Platters cost $10 each and consist of 15 large shrimp, homemade potato salad and cole slaw, dessert and coffee or tea. There will also be meatball sandwiches with the same side dishes available for $7.

Open registration

   Saturday, June 2 - The Florence Township Football and Cheerleading Program will hold open registration from 9 a.m. to noon at the municipal building, 711 Broad St., Florence. If you are unable to attend, visit the township offices to register.

Yard sale

   Saturday, June 2 - Wesley United Methodist Church, 24573 E. Main St., Columbus, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit The Smile Train, an organization that performs cleft palate surgery for underprivileged children. All items will be sold by donation only. There will be no labeled prices.

Ballroom dancing

   Sunday, June 3 - The Widows or Widowers of Burlington County will hold a night of ballroom dancing for all persons who have suffered the loss of a marriage partner by death. The event will take place from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the Korean Presbyterian Church in Bordentown. Admission costs $7 for members and $10 for guests. Refreshments will be provided.

Bordentown library
re-opening


   Sunday, June 3 - The Bordentown Library Association will celebrate the re-opening of the library by sponsoring an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. The newly expanded facility has lots to offer including a renovated fireplace, an aquarium and a hand-painted mural.
   Regular library hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. In July and August, the library will be closed Saturdays and Sundays.

Book talk

   Sunday, June 3 - The Bordentown Library will host a book talk with Claude Berube, co-author of the book "A Call to the Sea: Captain Charles Stewart of the USS Constitution" at 2 p.m.
   Mr. Berube has worked for two U.S. Senators and as a civilian for the Office of Naval Intelligence, where he led a terrorism analysis team. His articles have appeared in "Naval Intelligence Professionals Quarterly" and "The Journal of Military History." He is also the co-author of "Congress: Games and Strategies." He is currently an instructor in the Political Science and History departments at the United States Naval Academy.
   The public is invited to participate in a lively discussion on the escapades of Captain Charles Stewart and enjoy light refreshments.

Used book sale

   Sunday, June 3 - St. Mary's School PTA will hold a used book sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school, 30 Elizabeth St., Bordentown City.
   The sale will feature a large selection of books for adults and children at bargain prices. Stop by with your family and friends and pick up some books just in time for summer reading. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the St. Mary's School.

Casino trip

   Sunday, June 3 - The Knights of Columbus No. 570 is sponsoring a trip to the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City. The bus will leave St. Mary's Church parking lot on Elizabeth Street in Bordentown for a four-hour stay at the casino. The cost is $20. Each attendee will receive $22 in cash and a $5 food voucher.

Music classes

   Tueday, June 5 - This summer the hills are alive with "The Sound of Swine," a musical for 4- to 5-year-olds based on the story of the three little pigs. Classes, for those interested in participating in the musical, include basic vocal instruction such as singing on pitch and projection on stage, as well as basic music instruction including rhythms, beat, moving to music, and musical notation.
   Classes will meet from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 3 to 31, at the First Baptist Church in Bordentown. The session costs $120. Performances will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, and Saturday, Aug. 4.

Blood drive

   Tuesday, June 5 - St. Mary's School is sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Mary's Church Rectory on Crosswicks Street, on the second floor of the Parish Center. There is always an urgent need for blood and your donation can be used to help save the lives of up to three people.

Children's classes

   *American Girl program (ages 6 and up) - Dress up in historical costumes and learn historical games and dances just like Felicity, Addy and Samantha. Attend a fancy Victorian tea at the end of the program and show off the language you have learned.
   *Fairy princess dance (ages 5 to 8) - Experience what it would be like to be Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty or Snow White. Learn dances and etiquette and attend an elegant ball.

Jazz on
the river


   Saturday, June 9 - A fund-raiser called Jazz on the River will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight at Bordentown Yacht Club on Farnsworth Avenue in Bordentown. The Dick Lincoln Trio, Pat Pratico Octet and Tiger Town Trio will perform. There will be a cash bar. Donations are $30 per person.

Ham dinner

   Saturday, June 9 - The Trinity United Methodist Church will hold a buffet-style ham dinner at the church, 339 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown.
   Food will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m., with reservations being made on the half hour, allowing one hour for dinner. Prices are $11 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 12, and $12 for take-out. Children under 5 are free.

Re-enactment

   Saturday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10 - The Battle of Bordentown Reenactment will be held in honor of Bordentown's 325th anniversary (1682-2007) at the Divine Word Seminary, historical site of the Joseph Bonaparte estate Pointe Breeze, at 101 Park Street, Bordentown.
   The camp opens each day at 9:30 a.m. with the battles set for 2:30 p.m. This will be the largest assembly of re-enacters on the East Coast for this year. Parking and shuttle service is available.

Craft and
classic car show


   Sunday, June 10 - The Chesterfield Craft and Classic Car Show will be held at the Meadow View Junior Academy, located at 241 Bordentown-Chesterfield Road in Chesterfield, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. There will be local crafters, games and prizes for kids and food.

Auditions

   Tuesday, June 12, and Wednesday, June 13 - Bordentown Community Players are pleased to announce auditions for their fall production of "The Lion in Winter" by James Goldman.
   Auditions will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Rancocas Valley Regional High School in the old auditorium, 520 Jacksonville Road, Mt. Holly. The cast calls for five men (aged late teens to 50s) and two women (aged late teens to 23 and 50 to 60s).

Breakfast meeting

   Wednesday, June 13 - The Northern Burlington Regional Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. at Town and Country Diner, Route 130 North at Ward Avenue, Bordentown. The guest speaker will be Dr. Doreen V. Blanc who will provide tips on best practices in business etiquette.

   Thursday, June 14 - There will be a MOMS Club meeting at 9 a.m. Come to meet with other stay-at-home or part-time working moms in the community. Music festival
and pig roast


   Saturday, June 23 - The Florence American Legion Post 194, located at Sixth and Broad streets in Florence, will hold its annual music festival and pig roast featuring Joe Zook and Blues Deluxe, along with Southbound, Lisa Bouchelle, The Fury and DJ T, from 1 to 7 p.m. The rain date will be June 24. Golf outing

   Tuesday, June 26 - The Northern Burlington County Regional High School Band Boosters is sponsoring its second annual golf outing, dinner and gift auction to benefit the marching unit at Hanover Golf Club in Jacobstown.
   The unit is comprised of approximately 80 high school and middle school students who perform at all football games and compete on the USSBA band circuit. The students strive to represent Northern in the best possible manner, learn about perseverance and teamwork and develop long-lasting friendships. You can find them on the practice field from August through November.

Honoree celebration
and roast dinner


   Saturday, July 14 - A roast dinner and celebration honoring members of the Bordentown area who have a long family history and/or many years of dedicated service to the community will take place at the Scottish Rite facility, located at 103 Dunns Mill Road in Bordentown Township. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the grande buffet opens at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $35 and are limited.

Golf tournament

   Monday, July 16 - The Bordentown Rotary will hold its annual golf tournament at Olde York Country Club. There will be prizes awarded for a hole in one, long drive and closest to the pin.
   A continental breakfast will be served, as well as a luncheon and awards ceremony at close. The fee is $170 per person, and checks may be made payable to Bordentown Rotary. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the start time is 10 a.m.
   Hole sponsors are needed to fund area youth projects. Last year, the rotary funded the construction of two new dugouts at Gilder Park. This year, they are funding the renovation of four Bordentown softball fields. For $100, you may be a hole sponsor, and your business name will be placed on tee boxes. For $150, you may be a Cigar Rolling Sponsor.
