Where do I begin?

Since it has been 23 weeks since my first post on January 30, 2009 I am getting very close to another milestone in the AR community, almost at reaching 50K I am excited,
h
owever this blog I am now posting is to be a special blog that I want devoted to my daughter-in-law,

Victoria Hann Corbett

victoria and braydon

Vicky, who celebrates her 38th birthday this coming August 4th  is battling an autoimmune disease. She needs our help with an abundance of prayers. She needs a miracle, a donor to come forth and provide her with a new kidney.

She was diagnosed with Sjogren’s, an autoimmune disease, in 2004 after the birth of her first child, my first grandchild, Nolan Bryce, and is now suffering End Stage Renal Disease from complications of Sjogren’s.

Sjögren's syndrome often is undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. The symptoms of Sjögren's syndrome may overlap or "mimic" those of other diseases including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and multiple sclerosis. Because all symptoms are not always present at the same time and Sjögren's can involve several body systems, physicians and dentists sometimes treat each symptom individually and do not recognize that a systemic disease is present.

John Nolan BraydonNolan+Braydon

Vicky is the wife of my first born son, John Michael and lives in Anderson, SC. She is the mother of my two grandsons, Nolan Bryce (4 to be 5 August 6) and Braydon Pierce who turned 3 on April 20th. She has managed to enthusiastically care for them even while enduring daily fatigue and exhaustion along with her loving husband, John.  She  works full-time during her entire ordeal.  As a Certified Lactation Educator, she helps women establish a successful and loving nursing relationship with
their babies.  On top of all this, Vicky makes time to volunteer at community events such as cancer awareness days and the hospital’s Teddy Bear Clinic.

She started a blog, Sjogrens & Me, to help others who are suffering from this disease.  Her blog is featured on
Wellsphere, a comprehensive health information website.

Vicky is such a positive influence on the community and rarely even complains about her symptoms.
According to Victoria she tell

"What does Sjogrens feel like to have?

She patiently is waiting for a kidney transplant and needs all the help we can provide. With a failure of a kidney, everyday life is most difficult for her and has been for the past 5 years. By having this kidney transpant it will allow her to have a real chance to lead a normal everyday life enjoying her 2 little ones and family.

Please, if you or somebody you know can help Victoria, here are kidney donor options:

* Compatible Living Donor

* Incompatible Donor too often willing live donors do not meet the medical criteria. While it remains preferable (safer, easier, and less expensive) to receive a kidney from someone who is fully immunologically compatible, you can be an incompatible donor.

How to Become a Kidney Donor

* Paired Donor Exchange

*Deceased Donor

PLEASE, Help me use the  power of the web and social media and viral spread this request to a world wide basis of networking. May we connect in this blogosphere to everyone who might know someone who can help.

Vicky as well as needing this kidney transpant,  she and her family are in need of financial assistance to cover the extremely high costs of the  transplant.  A fundraising campaign has been established with theNational Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF)
to help offset their out-of-pocket expenses.  To date, NTAF founded in 1983, is the largest financial assistance organization in the United States for transplants and is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant communityfor over twenty-six years.

Dr. Jack Kolff and wife, Patricia, B.S.N., created the NHATF with the  vision that all people should be able to receive life-saving organ transplants without regard to their financial situations.
tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.  To support this cause:All contributions are administered by NTAF exclusively for uninsured transplant-related expenses.  Donations are please visit their webpage for Victoria Hann Corbett

May the hearts of those who can help make a difference.I thank you, my AR community family. Feel free to spread this dire message on twitter, facebook,  and on your blog.

ALLY: Thank you for visiting me this early morning. I do hope this message is send to as many bloggers as possible.  I am well aware of caring bridge, a great organization for patients to connect with their loved ones. One of my lenders, who became a close friend had leukemia and while she was being treated she would read our get well wish messages and depending on how she felt she would respond. Towards the end we would get updates of her condition from her sister. Unfortunately she is no longer here. She died too soon at a young age of 56.

Scrolling down the list of people on the NTAF for Vicki's name is a real eye-opener.  So many people on the list!  This condition is one I've never heard of before, and I'm so sorry that your family has first-hand experience with it.  Thank you for sharing your very personal story.

SALLY and DAVID: We thank you for your prayers and your compassion by re-blogging my post for the power of distribution by our AR family. My son, John Michael, called me this afternoon and said that Vicky's Sjogrens's blog had 28 active rain visitors. Sensational results in less than 12 hours. He was very excited and said that  Vicky showed tears of emotion.

MARGARET: My son asked me to consider doing a blog about Vicky illness.   I knew if I asked the members of AR to help they would come through. Certainly I am overwhelmed by the many who re-blogged this post so we could get more distribution for this unknown disease that can damage a person's kidneys.

I had to do alot of research on this disease, because this is an autoimmune disease that mimics so many other diseases

I found a link through twitter to your blog. My prayers and thoughts are with you. My sister fought an autoimmune disease that attacked her vital organs, thankfully she recovered with timely medication. I have twittered and placed a link on Facebook. I noticed on iGive.com, there are several people who have individual NTFA donation accounts. I am trying to establish one for Vicky in time for the Twitter birthday party I am hosting for her on August 4th. I am so glad most of our health care is covered in Canada. You can find me on Twitter as YrHelper, Facebook YrHelper Infonut and other places I'm known as Infonut. You'll know it's me when you see the little acorn with question mark eyes.

The Hann and the Corbett families thank you so very much, first of all for finding this blog through Twitter, and placing a link on Facebook.  A twitter Birthday party, what a sensational event that you are planning for her birthday on August 4th, she will be 38.

Below is Vicky's NTFA account:

I am so glad that your sister recovered with medications. The doctors told Vicky that medication would have worked if her disease was diagnosed 5 years ago.

thank you

Kathleen, I understand. I am a living kidney donor.  I gave a kidney to my brother when he was 38 and I was 34. Five years later, he is still doing great and so am I. If anyone is considering being a living donor, feel free to contact me. I'd be glad to answer any questions and would do it again in a heartbeat if I could. I wish Vicky the very best.

JEN: Thank you for letting us know that she gave one of your kidneys to your brother and that you both are doing fine. What a loving unselfish act to do.

Vicky's sister, Crystal, was tested to be her donor but failed and was told she was not compatible. She also had her friend's husband come forth and be tested and they found that one of his kidney was not in good health and could not donate the kidney he now needed.

Thank you for offering to talk to somone who may have questions about becoming a living kidney donor. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and caring.
