Richardson Regional Medical Center opened a satelite campus back in 2004 (this is where my OB is as it's about 1/2 mile from my house).  To go along with the 5 story, 100,000 sqft building, the city has just broken ground for two new additions.

The first will be a 50,000 sqft Comprehensive Cancer Center.  The second will be a 47,000 sqft Outpatient Hospital.  Construction is expected to be compeltely by the Fall of 2008.

I think this will be great, not just for the area, but also for my business.  Can you imagine how many doctors will be relocating to the general or immediate area?!  Currently, according to recent numbers, there are about 200,000 people that live within a 5 mile radius of this area.

People will no longer have to travel upwards of 5 hours to Houston for excellent Cancer care.

(Because of the limitations of Localism, I have to post this article in Dallas County in order for it to list in Richardson. However, this new facility is actually in Collin County.)

I wish we didn't need places like this but it will be nice for local cancer patients so they won't have to travel too far!  My brother and my Dad both died from cancer and it is a terrible disease.

But this will be good for our businesses and the City of Richardson.  Thanks for this update.

Linda, I agree, Cancer is not a good thing, but it's definitely good for these people to have more and better options.  There is also an "Old Folks Home" breaking ground catty-corner across Renner at Shiloh.

Yes, there are a lot of Retirement Communities that have opened in the last year or in the near future in Plano, too.   I guess that does prove people really are retiring here.
