A rental property we have is in need of a new roof.  Things still being on the slow side, and the roof not being an emergency, I am doing it myself.  I did some self contracting in years past so other then my muscles not up to par...it's a piece of cake.

I was tearing off the old shingles...

When I thought about a job I contracted.  It was a bit bigger than I normally took, and my neighbors 'The good ol' boy's' were willing to help.  Now these guys make up in ambition what they lack in IQ.  I was inside the house with the owner and the guys were outside laying sod.

Periodically I would open a window and yell out "Green side up".  Then I would ga on with the owner on other details.  After a bit I would again open the window and yell, "Green side up."

After a few times the homeowner asked why I was doing that.

"Well" I said, "The Good ol boys are strong and ambitious, but, I need to make sure they are not  laying the sod upside down!"

Bill, I was planting some evergreen shrubs out by the road about a week back, when one of the local landscaping crews rode by. The driver yelled over the same thing "green side up", root ball in the hole.

I would much rather plant sod than re-roof a house!! Good luck!

I avoid roofs if at all possible. I have never been a big fan of heights. Of course, I hate laying sod too, but it doesn't frighten me nearly as much.

JL...I have dealt with heights since I was about 8.  very little in the way of physical labor has ever slowed me down.   Strong back...weak mind!

Bill - WOW that looks like hard work.  I'd rather not be on a roof when it's so hot!
