End of Week 3, start of week 4 - My experience with Bell's Palsy

I always like to preface that I know this is just a condition. Its something my body is going through and many many others go through as well. Its not a life threatening situation, nor is it a permanent condition. This past weekend was the 3rd complete week I've had Bells Palsy.  Each week I have taken a few minutes to do a quick recap with how I'm feeling, if I've had any struggles, and shared a laugh or two.

Thank you for taking the time to read up each week. It's easy to read the title and know that I obviously still have Bells Palsy, but you still click on the link, read what I have to say, and even add comments. It really means a lot to me. Just another reason to love ActiveRain. As Deb Brooks of Lake Livingston once said I Love My Computer Because My Friends Live In It  You have truly made this much easier to deal with. Plus as JL pointed out, it is VERY therapeutic.

As I reported in last weeks update, I have not been attending any of my closings over the past three weeks. This week will be the my first week to attend closings. Many of my customers are aware of my condition and understand that it a short term. I never thought the customers would judge me based on this situation. The concern was very much internal, which I just needed to get over. My closings take place Thursday and Friday. Assuming nothing major happens, I plan on attending BOTH.

As for movement... still pretty much the same. I have noticed a slight difference in my left eye (the paralyzed side). When this started, I could not wink out of both eyes. Only my right eye could blink. My left eye would only shut IF my right eye was already shut. Towards the middle of the week, I am able to almost close my left eye without the right one being closed. Doesn't sound like much, but I was taking it as a good sign. The doctor mentioned it would come back slowly (couple days/weeks) not like the way it showed up (24 hours).

I am happy to report that I still do not have any drooping. Based on pictures and horror stories I've heard, I could have had a drooping side. As I mentioned before, it was like Botox for me because I don't have any movement. I've become much more comfortable talking and think that my face has adjusted as well (not sure if thats a good thing or bad). I've been told that I sound the same on the phone, but some of that is also because I avoid certain words to the best of my ability (still with the 'F's and 'V's). Sometimes I'll take a second to think of another way to say something. LOL

Things are going well. Thank you for catching up with me and perhaps next week I'll have more improvement to report on. Talk with you all soon.

Have a great HUMP DAY

Hi John,

Oh my gosh, I missed your prior posts, but sorry to hear about your condition. My brother had it for a while, yet now you would never know it. Stay strong and you will get through it!

Hey John - Despite your preface (and my previous light-hearted comments), I'm sure that this ranges from annoying to downright scary at times.  I'm really glad to hear you are making some progress towards recovery and hope this provides a little relief.  Good luck at your closings.  I'm sure your clients will be glad to have you there.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving the kind comment. I just read what you have been dealing with. I believe everything will go back to normal...it will just take time. I've known two people that have had this and they are both fine now. That had to be frightening to happen suddenly.

Any progress is GOOD progress.  I think it's wonderful that you're posting these weekly updates, and I'll bet others will be checking them out for years to come when they're diagnosed with the condition and looking for information about what they can expect.

Lynda - Thats what I have heard. Some have had a little effect afterwards, but most have a full recovery.

Erik - I debated practicing it in Spanish, but was concerned my customers would not get it. Thanks for the comment.

Brian - Appreciate the comment. Its definitely not that bad. Irritating at times, but thats about it.

Lizette - My pleasure. I read that you were an ambassador and figured I'd check you out. :-)  Not that you need my approval, but I am always looking for new bloggers to follow. As for the Palsy, it was odd when it first started. Wasnt sure if I was having a stroke or something. But they keeping telling me just to wait it out.

Margaret - Its helpful to blog about it. Obviously not life threatening or anything, but still comforting when I hear about people that had it and it went away. I even received feedback from someone that did some research for me. The chances of it coming back is 7% and IF it comes back, it wont be for at least 10 years. So, thats good too.

Hi John, I too had Bell's Palsy, mine was caused by a bite from a tick carrying Lyme Disease. Have you ever had a 'Western Blot' blood test for Lyme? This can be common symptom at times with this disease.

I have all kinds of links at the bottom of my profile page if you are interested in reading. If you ever have any questions just contact me anytime.

Best wishes for you!

Cythia - They didnt check me for lyme disease (that I know of). Although they did test a few things so they could narrow it down. From what I read about and what they informed me, sounded like this Viral Infection. Then again, no one said its a clear reason why someone gets Bells Palsy. I'll certainly check out the links. Thanks for sharing them with me.
