But they asked anyway.  List price was 289990.  Original offer was 270k.  My seller countered at 287500.  We made it clear in the listing and from the initial negotiations, she was already at her bottom.  Then we receive the counter back from the buyer's agent: 287,500, they want the decorative window hanging and the '56 Ford in the garage "with clear title".

My seller calls me and asks, "This is a joke, right?" Nope, no joke.  So, first i ask you....Who does THAT?? They may as well have asked for her husband's first born.  That truck is her hubby's baby. He built it himself. And I'm sure the buyer knew it....it's not like they asked for the car in the driveway.  It was worse....

Did he really think a request like that would do anything but piss the seller off and make her want to do anything but tell him to pound sand? And where do you draw the line with personal property? When is personal too personal?

Why ask for something that clearly the seller is very emotional tied to, and never had anything to do with the listing in the first place?

I've had many people joke about putting a special vehicle, animal, or artifact in an offer, but usually it makes for a good laugh and it doesn't happen.  Likely, they are just trying to get added value, kind of like getting the hat at the end of a negotiation at the car dealer (I got 3 when I bought my Kubota... maybe I paid too much if they gave me three hats?).  Kind of like the $5,000 fridge - pay the price, but ask for something else.  Stay the course - the buyer will buy it without the truck, or there will be another buyer.  They are just negotiating - will the seller concede anything else, or stay the course?  If not, counter again without the truck.  Good luck.

Jessica,

If I don't ask, I'll never know what could have been.  My first sailboat came as a result of a full price offer I made on a home on Long Beach Island, NJ.  I directed my REALTOR to put it in the contract.  She did, and I got the boat with the house.

Jessica, I must admit it's original.  Like Mike said, You never know until you ask.

Hope the seller did not get too pissed off.

Sorry. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. I am from Suriname and bad know English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "This company will accept applications as late as pm cst and still be able to issue a fast cash advance by the next business day." Thank :-) Vic.
