The Southern and Southwest Virginia Fishing Trail was launched at the 2009 Bassmaster Elite 100's Series Blue Ridge Brawl Tournament at Smith Mountain Lake. The trail is designed to help anglers plan their dream fishing vacations.

According to Joe Bondurant, Tourism Director for Virginia's Amherst County ,"If someone wants to hit some of Virginia's best fishing spots for different species, the Trail gives them an idea of where to go and where to stay. The Trail makes it possible to plan a vacation that would take them from fishery to fishery, all across the southern and southwestern parts of the state."
