When people begin their search for a new home, they make a list of everything they want to have in that home. The list may contain the perfect kitchen, a walk in closet and a jetted tub in the master bath. What that list does not contain, however, are the incentives that come at the end of the year.

Form 1040

The IRS offers a variety of tax benefits for the home buyer. These benefits include, but are not limited to the deduction of points, mortgage interest and local property taxes.

A complete list of tax incentives offered to the home buyer can be found at the IRS.gov website. Simply search the term "homeowner deductions" and add that list of tax deductions to the must have list for your new home.
