I'm sure everyone has received an electronic greeting card from someone.  There are tons of sites that allow you to send a "card" free, as well as attach a electronic gift card to it to various electronic and brick and mortar retailers.  Unfortunately, there is a new virus making the rounds that comes disguised as one of these cards. However, they are easy to spot if you know where to look. The email comes claiming to be from a family member or loved one but doesn't list the name of the sender.  They all have a link to click to view the card, which usually takes you to a site that installs malware of some sort, either a virus or a trojan.    The best thing to do is delete the file and then remove it from your trash folder as well.  Making sure your anti-virus software is up to date and active will also save you a lot of time and money. -Charles

I've gotten a lot of these lately.  I immediately delete.  They're always finding new ways to try to infiltrate out computers and our lives.

Jacq,

I do not open atachments who I do not know, never, Just from people that I know, also I always have handy my updated antivirus and at least 1 time biweekly I do a quick ad adware scan to check what my antivirus missed.

We get a ton of bogus emails. Thankfully cox is upgrading their spam filters soon, so hopefully this type of crap will be caught and disgarded automatically. -Charles

That is a new one to me, but I don't get that much spam (that I see). I have some easy steps to avoid spam and even after 3 years of my kw account I only get maybe 5 per week. Plus maybe another 5 per week on SHH e-mail addresses so it's very easy to ignor. I do get a ton of spam on my Yahoo account, but Yahoo takes care of most of it (over a hundred per day in the spam folder). This account isn't used for anything that matters, so I delete most everything that come to it.

I send cards all of the time. Can you be more specific? Which card company is it that causes the problem? Thanks.

If you get a "card" that says its from a family member, but doesn't list the name and the email address doesn't either, DON'T OPEN IT. Its a virus. DELETE IT. -Charles
