Waking up in the morning to new comments on blogs is an awesome feeling, especially since I've been somewhat missing in action as of late, and haven't been able to blog much.  This morning I get notices from AR that 3 of my older blogs have new comments.

Yippy! First cup of coffee tastes better already.  I swallow the first of these comments whole, grateful and humble that some soul had stumbled upon my little blog of all the ones out there, and felt compelled to write something, and then I hit the second sentence: "help us all out here... best source of patio furniture..." blah blah bla..

In the next hour or so, I got similar notices on old blogs I had subscribed to, all pretty much the same - a crappily-put-together sales pitch for one thing or another by a non member of AR.  They kept pouring in.  Coffee didn't taste so good anymore.  I know I have the report button and the delete button.  I've used both in each instance.

It seems to have stopped, for now.  But I am pissed as hell that some moron out there truly thinks anyone will click on their links via a comment that is so obviously spam.  So here is an idea, for all the scavengers out there: if you want to spam - make it worth my time.  Make it interesting.  Make it unforgettable, and I just might respect you for trying.  I might even leave your comment on my blog.

Hell, I might even blog about you.  Engage me, and my readers, and who knows, you might discover a whole new way of ‘marketing' your crap.  If you can't do that - stay away from my blogs.

There is no room here for dull and lazy.

Had a few of the same spammers myself this morning but never did get around to writting my Banish the Bastards post.  I hit Report and Delete then went to find their IP address so I could give them a final FU but got sidetracked.

Judging by the way they are acting, it is most probably a company, that figured that they can do that on such a great platform as AR.

I hope that AR will find the way to block them automatically, it seems like not really difficult to do. It is just a matter of time, whihc is at a premium nowadays

Dan - i guess it's hard to banish the bastards that are anonymous...

I didn't have time digging for the IP addresses, but will next time.  Of course AR will have to block IPs one at a time - time-consuming, to say the least... ARGGG!

My Sandra - but you are loved, dahling!!!

Jon - I am sure it is companies, or those pesky mlm'ers doing the spamming.  Unfortunately, unless they are all originating from the same network or the same IP range, there is no one button block option:-(

Inna - I vote for the power to control whether or not to accept anonymous comments, like on many other blog engines. I believe it is from overseas, possibly a phishing scam, or something to put a trojan horse or worm or something worse on the link clickers system.

I agree with Jon, I got the sense that it's bots doing it.

I heart bots:)

And we do have the power here to control comments from non-members... though, I'm not positive this would have evaded this annoying fiasco.

Hello lovely Inna.  The nerve of these people upsetting my lovely's morning coffee and getting her hopes up.  I'm getting them too and they are annoying as stepping in dog poop barefoot before my morning tea.  Yes, it's happened.  Not fun.  Have a lovely day.  xxoo

Mike - I suppose we all ought to be a bit more protective of this network. It's unfortunate to have to 'block' potential consumer comments in the hopes of avoiding spam:-(

Tchaka - whatever these things are, i am hoping Jergen annihilates them.

Sardi - you would:-) The folks who blocked non-members comments are still being spammed, apparently.

My Susan - in the great scheme of things, it is the fact that we look forward to the comments on this network, and these scavenging scumbags squishing our hopes is the thing that annoys us the most.  In a strange way, I guess it's a testament to our need for being loved, read, listened to, and the fact that AR gives us that.  Hugs!
