Philadelphia Real Estate Market: Moments That Transcend Money !
Last night, I went on a listing appointment in Fishtown. We have been in contact with a potential
seller for the last year and a half or so. So she asked if one of us could come over as she was thinking about listing her house.
The owner purchased the property in 2005 and did a small REFI a year later so her equity situation was not great. Still, there has been a lot of development and new construction in the area so she wanted to know more specifics about the value. We had a great meeting and a great discussion regarding her house, her family and her life.
After going over all the options, it was determined that it just made the most sense for her to stay where she is. Towards the end of the conversation, I mentioned "With us, we will tell you the truth. Honesty is the best policy. Some Philadelphia Realtors may tell you a higher number in this Real Estate market just to get a sign on the door to see what happens and roll the dice. Ultimately, practices like that over-promise and under-deliver."
She commented "That is why I called you."
That warmed my heart and made me smile.
It makes it all worthwhile !
It is not always about the paycheck or closing a deal. Moments like this confirm that I am in the right place. There are additional layers of depth that help us be a better person and Realtor. And ultimately help the clients we serve...

Those are the best times, even when no actual business takes place and no pay is earned. It is a meaningful, TRUSTING atmosphere which we honor and greatly appreciate because someone has decided to trust us with the advice they take into their life, and all-the-more in a situation like this. It is humbling and it is a wonderful event. I'm glad you guys got this opportunity and even more so glad that you chose the high road. Many wouldn't have. This person made a great choice!
Steve- You are so right. Sometimes I have these moments, I enjoy it, but then I forget about them due to the life being hectic and stressful. It is important to remember these times which is why I wrote a quick blog post about it. Doing the right thing and being honest always comes back to you in a positive way I believe.

Chris, helping the client find the best answer for them is what makes us competent in our profession and keeps us coming back for more! John
Hannah - Well said ! I agree - certain moments we can treaure for sure, and many of those moments have nothing to do with making money or closing deals.
John - Absolutely ! It is important to go over all options with a potential client, and be well-versed in those options as well.
I run my business the same way and people really do appreciate it. The agent that tells people what they want to hear are just shooting themselves in the foot.
I tell it like it is all the time.
I don't have enough time to deal in foolishness nor appease sellers or buyers.
The market is what it is, I didn't create it or change it. I just work in it.
Good for you two.
Makes us realize what we are really in this business for, helping others. Not that the money isn't an added perk!
