Tomato gardenTo the three or four people who may have been following my husband's tomato growing, I guess I'm making my last report.

From the tomatoes on the right, guess which two were grown by my husband.  Yep, the bottom two.  I'm not sure why he brought them into the house unless he wanted to brag or have them featured.

His tomato growing has been a continued story of #$%$!!^%! and new methods of outwitting the deer and worm population. He did bring in two lovely tomatoes on the 4th of July and we thought he'd won.

I think he's given up the battle.  The #$!!^%!! deer got into them again when the rain washed off his seven-dust (whatever that is) and I saw a golf cart out beside the four little plants and I believe I saw a couple of golfers doubled over laughing but I can't be sure since I didn't have my glasses on.  They may have been stealing the good tomatoes!!

So my speech to him was that it is not whether you won or lost but how you played and he played the game with gusto and enthusiasm and the audience enjoyed watching the game.

Besides that he did win in the golf games.  He and two of his friends shot a 59 (whatever that means)  to win a tournament way ahead of the other guys.  So he is a winner!!  And he bought the big tomato!!

Hi Barbara,

I'm thinking like Kate...are you going to post a tastefully done nude pic of yourself like Charles did?

Kate and Tony, one eye-singeing on active rain is enough.  Don't want to run everyone away.  LOL

how cute...at least he tried.

My husband grew them this year also...but all of his had a big "bite" mark out of them...hmmm, wondering what kind of critter makes that BIG OF A BITE?

Mrs Kate,

You be nicer to my godmother. You have come into her own blog home and you are being rude. If you did that in her house, her husband, and me if I was visiting them, would grab you by the back of the neck and the seat of the pants and toss you out onto the front lawn. That is what we would do.

Ms. Barbara is my co-founder of SWSS. I judge that as quite nice and so does she. Anyway, for an inconsequential price, I offered to supplement her wardrobe.

Sheila, I went to list a house this afternoon and there on the back porch were 4 gorgeous tomato plants with big juicy ripe tomatoes.  They gave me some to bring home.  Boy, am I going to lord it over my husband.  I can get better tomatoes while I'm working than he can grow.  I also took a picture which I may have to put on this blog!!!

Kate, singeing!  Spell check approved it.  Not singing!  And what the heck is SWSS?  Nutsy is my godson!!  Forever!

Nutsy, thanks for chewing on that lady Kate.  oops!  I meant Ms Kate....don't want to use the adjective lady when it is inappropriate.  She's being irreverent....a nicer term than rude.  She's just jealous because you like me more than you like her.

Dear Mrs Barbara,

I am quite sure that, sometime when she was young, she fell head over heels for a Don Juan type squirrel. He grabbed her heart strings, toyed with her, and then jilted her. That is what I think. So now she rails on your honest, sincere, big in Hollywood, sweet Godson. Frankly, the initials she uses go right over my head.

That Godson,

Nutsy

You've got to give it to him for trying, Barbara. Have you thought about buying more of those big tomatoes and safety-pinning them to the tomato plants? Just to freak him out! LOL.

Billy Jack Nutsy, ssssshhhhhhh, we're enjoying the silence.

Elizabeth, I think that is an excellent idea.  He'd see big lucious tomatoes from the window, go tearing out there to check them and I'd be laughing!!!  But what if the deer see them first????  :  (

Well, the deer won't be able to pull them off the tomato plant. I think you should do it. :):)

Raven and Kate, no one could follow this thread!

Mary, we finally today got some excellent tomatoes.  Donated by friends who grew them.  I think hubby was snookered by buying some that the man swore he grew but didn't taste home-grown.  These were great.

Elizabeth, it still seems like a fun idea!!

I made the best salsa yesterday but have to admit I bought the tomatoes. I think if I tried to grow them, they'd fry in the heat.

Yep Barbara, it looks like blight, I don't think the 'Sevin Dust' he's using will be very helpful. Once this fungus starts it's hard to get rid of he may have to use a multi purpose fungicide.

Kate, we now have lots of tomatoes......donated to us by a neighbor who CAN grow tomatoes.

Cynthia, I think he has slunk away in despair and embarrassment.  He's good at golf;  bad at tomato growing.
