Farewell to Walter Cronkite

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty TN R.E. License 292369

The evening news was never the same after Walter Cronkite retired.  Those of us that watched the news with Walter Cronkite remember when news was news and personal opinion was saved for the editorial page of the newspapers.

He was the face and voice we saw and trusted to tell us what was happening in the world.  When "no spin" wasn't a just slogan, but a professional standard of journalism.  We welcomed his into our living room every evening.

He was like our family, like a favorite uncle who would tell us daily "that's the way it is".  He will be missed.

My husband and I just had a "discussion" last night about when Dan Rather took over the cbs evening news.  We had looked it up on the internet just last night.  Mostly I remember Walter Cronkite from my childhood.  I was still in high school when he retired the anchor desk.  But I have clear memories of my mom making me sit in front of the tv for the moon landing and the nixon resignation news nights.

When I was a limo driver in New York, I once got a job and it was to take Walter Cronkite. It was a few days before Christmas and traffic around the Rockefeller Center was ferocious. By the time I got there, Walter was gone, and I took his secretary

An era has passed.  When it came to all the major events in American History since 1950 -  Walter Cronkite was the "Great American Voice"  Solid and steady, and a member of the greatest generation.   Time just keeps marching on.

It matters to us as much as it matters to you.

Too bad about the NY traffic Jon, I remember that night of the moon landing, same night as my first kiss Tammy, but I remember Walter Cronkite too.

I will never forget when he told us the time of day when JFK had passed.  The choke in his unshakable voice even for that brief moment still sends chills up my spine.  Apollo 13 coverage was unbelievable as well.

I think that we will all miss Walter Cronkite, I was in my early teens when he retired, that was about the time that my dad stopped watching the Network News.  I guess that was why I remember it so well.

He was a true journalist and reporter... he reported the news didnt make it up... it is funny to watch all these current anchors and journalist report on his death or talk about his life... they all respect him but nonoe of them even try to remain true to the principles of journalism.. to be the watch dog of government..to report the facts and keep your opinions to yourslef.... and to always stay true to the truth..
