Oktoberfest Update- Greg Mills

Greg reminded us that this year's Oktoberfest will be on Wednesday October 7th at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim.  He had a special guest Hana Habereder who is from a team of Bavarian Dancers call Schuhplatters or Shoe Slappers, who will entertain us and get some audience members involved in the celebration. This promises to be lots of fun!!!

Greg also passed around a list for members to sign up for donations to the silent and live auctions.

The group also expressed a desire to have tables for 8 at the event.

Greg is designing a save the date post card that will be sent out shortly to community members.

Hana Haberderer tells us about Bavarian Dance as Greg Mills looks on

President Joe began a new club tradition called "Blooper' and then told one- not to be outdone Ron Accornero recounted the story of Ed and Dotothy, to starstruck lovers who finally came clean when Ed announced his undying passion for golf and Dorothy owned up to her dark past as a hooker.

Ed shrugged and told her she was probably choking up to much on the grip of the club. Whereas Ken Meyer corrected and said it was probably the shaft.  Good start to a new tradition.

Joe says they'll be an award for the best "blooper' at the end of the year.  Prepare for some groans and hopefully some good belly laughs at future meetings.

Millie Alexander pulled a 10 on the raffle.

Speaker: Jim Brodsky

Topic: The Mighty Mitochondria

We learned that the cellular organelle the mitochondria is now felt to play a much bigger role than previously believed in cancer creating 3 substances resveratin, lipoic acid and ntric oxide. All of which are increased with exercise.  Jim reported that the human genome has 22,000 genes and that what separates humans from other animal species is the ability to up regulate areas of the genome.

JIm also reported on studies showing the healthful benefits of positive motivational messages on the outcomes of surgical patients- those that heard the messages had better outcomes with fewer complications- saving time and healthcare costs for the insurers.

Good Job JIm.

The club wishes everyone a happy and healthy July 4th
