Analyze your Blog - I Love Zero's .... except on ActiveRain

Do you analyze your Blog and see which of your posts receive the greatest number of comments? Do you wonder why certain posts receive zero comments?

I try to comment on interesting and relevant topics that relate to Real Estate matters.

I also try to blog about topics that may be of interest to people in my local neighborhood and people relocating to the area I live and work in.

Perhaps readers around the country (and the world) may also be interested in what's happening in Los Angeles.

I often look at other blogs that are receiving no comments and find a few common elements:

1. The post is way too long. It makes sense to keep it brief. Get the message across quickly and let the comments carry the conversation further.

2. There are no pictures or graphics. Add pictures. Visuals can add life and excitement to otherwise dull looking posts.

3. The information is not compelling or relevant. Obviously every blog cannot appeal to every reader, but the content should tempt the reader to read on and participate in the comments.

4. The blog does not promote a debate or reader input. I think a blog should be an interactive experience between the blogger and the readers. The blog should invite input and comments to further stimulate a discussion.

If you have observations as to why some blogs get a better response than others please share them .... that way we can all continue to write stimulating, informative and entertaining blogs.

I am always analyzing it too. Can't figure out why some 0 comment blogs get more points than those with several. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the ideas Stewart. I DO check what gets read, and what gets skipped. I've learned a few tips. Like: make the title interesting. Keep it short. I use the name of my town as often as possible in the title too. My most read posts? About Cowboy Action Shooting!

Have a great day!

Stewart,

Great points to remember. Some AR members really have a gift for messages or holding our interest. I know there are some I make a point to catch every day as I look forward to their post.

Cowboy Action Shooting ......? mmmm ....!!

My post on The Power of Blogging had great reader participation as did my discussion on The Virtual Business Model vs Traditional Corporate Real Estate Offices.

Interestingly my posts on political subjects attracted many readers and earned a high number of points. (My posts about Sarah Palin attracted a lot of interesting and controversial comments).

Hi Stewart - It also depends where you put it - whatever it's called - group, section - I'm not sure - but I know if I put it in the Consumer track rather than the AR track I'm surprised if the post garners any comments at all.

Hi Stewart - I also think it's pertinent to put your post in a smaller blogged in group. I know that sounds counterproductive, but when you post to a group like Realtors, it can come and go so fast from the new blog list that you don't get any exposure...

Certainly shorter blog posts are more likely to get a comment, I don't think a lot of members want to read through a novel.

I also think that a good headline goes a long way to getting people to want to read and comment on the blog.

Stewart,

I tend to double space and add graphics to make it easy on the eyes. People seem to like that.
