boy scoutsTomorrow morning I'm taking the day off from real estate and my son and I are getting up early and meeting at the local grocery store and heading up to Boy Scout camp. It is a special time in a young man’s life, it means he is growing up, starting to become independent and ready to become a man.

Well, tomorrow, is my sons first day at Boy Scout camp and as a Cub Scout. You see my son’s Cub Scout troops first meeting is going to be a week of day trips up to a local Boy Scout camp, where they will learn the normal Scout stuff, how to tie a few knots, sing songs and just have fun being part of something.

I’m going to be posting pictures tomorrow night from the day long event, but watch Twitter for update pictures and video directly from the camp.

If you are interested in getting your son in to Boy Scout or Cub Scouts, contact the local Boy Scout office on 1st street in Portland and they will get you in contact with your local troop and then let the fun begin!

Hi Todd!  OMG--I remember those days--savor every moment because he'll be 21 before you know it!  Enjoy camp and looking forward to the Twitter pics!

Todd, I remember those days too! Our son did his boy scout camp at a local church, but what a great idea to go to a real camp. That would have been way more fun for the boys. Enjoy, as Debe says, it goes by so fast. The son I'm talking about is now 23!

Today a Cub Scout.

Tomorrow an eagle.  Or not.

Then an Eagle father of a cub Scout.  Or a father who wishes he had become an Eagle.

We get to decide such things in this life.  Or regret not deciding.

Todd:

Where do you get the cartoons?

I know you didn't get this one from a Scouting manual.

I was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout.  The experiences taught me much about both teamwork and self reliance.

OK, I have to admit camp almost killed me! If an 8 year old ever says "Hey, I'll race you on the obstacle course, do you want to race?" Your answer should always be no!
