The Community of Sackville is part of The Halifax Regional Municipality. This community is made up of four separate areas, all interconnected; Lower Sackville, Middle Sackville, Upper Sackville and Beaverbank.
Lower Sackville is almost fully developed residentially, it boasts a mix of business, residential and park areas, whereas the outskirts of Sackville (Middle and Upper) continues to increase. Sackville is located only 20 minutes from Halifax, Dartmouth and the airport; and only 5 minutes from Bedford.
Lower Sackville is the business and central core of the community. The majority of people who live in Sackville live in Lower Sackville. Middle Sackville is about 5 km from the city center of Lower Sackville. This area features homes with mainly large country lots. Homes here are primarily on well and septic in this area. Upper Sackville is about 10 km from the city center of Lower Sackville. It begins at the far end of Middle Sackville. This area features include private large lots on well and with few amenities. Beaverbank is about 5 km from the city center of Lower Sackville. Municipal water was installed in 2004/2005 in parts of this area.
The majority of Lower Sackville's suburbs were built in the 1970's.
Sackville has a very active recreation department as well as many community groups offering programs. The Sackville Sports Stadium offers a pool, curling rink, ice rinks, and gymnasium with a multitude of fitness equipment. As well you will find an 18 hole golf course just on the outskirts of Town in Beaverbank (Lost Creek). A provincial park reserve borders the northern edge of the community at Second Lake
Sackville features two high schools: Sackville High School and Millwood High School. There are 4 Junior Highs; Leslie Thomas, Sackville Heights, AJ Smeltzer and Harold T Barrett.
