Located at the head of Bedford Basin, Bedford is famous for its beautiful natural surroundings.  It is centrally located between Halifax and Dartmouth.  Either city can be reached without crossing the bridges, which are often congested.

There a two parks in this community.  Dewolf Park offers a walking path along the shores of the basin.  Bedford Days which is a one week festival in the summer is hosted in this park.  Lions Park is also located on the shores of the Bedford Basin and features two heated pools and a playground.

The Bedford community features hotel and motel accommodations, shopping and restaurants. Yachting, rock climbing, lawn bowling, canoeing and hiking are also popular summer sports within Bedford. Bedford features several acres of protected parkland boasting walking and ski trails.   There are two supervised beaches located at  Papermill Lake,

Visiting yachts are welcomed at the internationally renowned Bedford Basin Yacht Club.  Tourist information can obtained at the Bedford Visitor Information Centre on the Bedford Highway.
