There was always a reason I couldn't go to INMAN CONNECT . From the very moment 2 years ago when Brad Andersohn told me about it, I wanted to go in the worst way.
I am the dork that you always see at these events, on the front row, taking notes, asking questions, and ready for endless discussion.
Yep, I am a seminar/conference junkie.
That, and this: It amazes me how the Universe somehow serves you up what you want on a silver platter.
Maybe there really is something to the book THE SECRET. I have been reading it this summer after finding it at a garage sale, unsure whether to buy into the idea that your thoughts will bring you exactly what you want.
What do you think? Does this stuff work?
I have had 2 overwhelming thoughts this summer:
- I want to (finally) go to the Inman Conference. In past years, I had schedule conflicts. This year, I just promised myself to adhere to a strict budget that did not include conferences or seminars. Still I dreamed...
- I came to regret my New Year's resolution of NO VACATION. Having your nose to the grindstone is fine and dandy, but I can't help myself. I like to be at the beach in the summer. And who would have thought that this would be another very challenging year in the mortgage biz? PollyAnna had hoped it would be easier. And PollyAnna needs a break.
And so on Friday morning, Jim Cronin of the Real Estate Tomato announces he has tickets to give away to the blogger that can come up with the best 50 word reason they should go the Inman Conference this year. Entries had to be in at the end of the day.
What to do? I had a million mortgage commitments, lunch with a client, and was leaving town at 3 pm to entertain guests at the weekend house. Still, at the very end of the day, I put together a hasty little post, pressed submit and crossed my fingers.
I hoped all weekend. I kept checking my e-mail much to the amusement of my weekend guests. Finally I gave up. In some very intense heat (California foothills had a 110 degree heat spell last weekend)...I announced to everyone over dinner that NEXT YEAR I would not miss the conference, and NEXT YEAR I would be at the beach in August.
The next day, my e-mail to Jim Cronin had this in the subject line "BUMMED that I didn't win a ticket". He replied, "You did win a ticket. I posted the winners in the blog". (Hadn't thought to check his original blog).
Did a happy dance, right in the office. Marked it in big red letters on the wall calendar.
The very next e-mail came from my husband. "We are invited to Hawaii for a week in August. Have bought tickets using our airline miles. Aloha".
Okay, seriously. I am going to go back and read THE SECRET again.

Janet, now you know - it's not a secret. You thoughts will bring you what you are thinking about - the good, the bad, and the ugly. The truth about "The Secret" (movie and book) is that the real secret was edited out. Did you know that? I personally know three people who are in The Secret who explained what happened when it came time to edit the movie. The secret about The Secret is that we only got half of it! However, even only half has helped people to know the truth about what we create in our lives - we create what we think about!!!! It's that simple.
