Green homes are designed to use less energy and water than a traditional home, resulting in lower utility bills for the homeowner. The builder uses higher quaility and more durable materials thus lowering the homeowners maintance costs over the life time of the home. Green homes are healthier to live in due to the improved air quality. CPS energy states that an entry level Green Home is 40% more energy efficient than their traditional counter part.

1. Materials: valued for durability, local origins, reusability, and lowest enviromental impact during manufacturing.
2. Energy Efficiency: provides monthly utility savings through passive solar design, effective insulation, efficient appliances, lighting, heating, cooling and the use of renewable energy.
3. Water Conservation: in use indoor and out, in the form of low flow showerheads, water-saving washers, xeriscaping and rainwater collection.
4. Health: enhanced as a result of proper ventilation, reduced particle matter, and minimal to no toxic compounds in building materials such as paint, adhesives, pest control, and flooring.
5. Site Development: decision to locate near amenties and public transit, maximum solar and sahding benifits, and minimizes land disturbance and erosion.
