From my Tools For Real Estate blog:

Love Facebook? Hate Facebook? Have a personal Facebook profile, but not sure how to use it for your real estate business?

(All of the above?)

Regardless of which category you fall into, here's what you need to know: Having a Facebook business page (also called a Facebook fan page) is a great way for you to market yourself online as a real estate agent. It's free, easy to set up, and easy to keep updated with content such as links to interesting articles, photos, and even videos.

How much or how little you put into it is up to you. But, here's the catch... most real estate agents don't know how to create a Facebook business fan page to begin with!

Fortunately, it's easy. Here's a video I made showing exactly how to do it, along with tips on choosing the right title for your Facebook business page.

Hi Heather,

I do agree that keeping things up to date can be a big challenge, I recently hired some help for distributing my original content (ie. my one blog post or video, etc.) to my various social media sites.

Two things I'd suggest - one is the the Facebook fan page is so easy to update by just posting a link to an interesting article about real estate from the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, etc., or a link to one of your recommended service provider's websites - that kind of thing.  It's useful information and takes very little time.

The other if you ever consider delegating is www.odesk.com to hire some virtual assistant help, can be just a few hours a week and you can find some good people on there who can distribute your content.

Hope this helps!

Hi Oliver,

I use my personal profile mainly for non-business, but this still sends traffic to my business pages (I have two.)

I personally like the option to use primarily the business page for business, however I do pick business page items that I think have wide appeal and post them to my personal profile occasionally.  However if you do this you want to post many more non-business-related items on your personal profile.

For my first business page I was able to set it to stop updating my personal profile, however I can no longer figure out how to do that for my second business page and I've searched everywhere - so if anyone knows how to do this I'd love to hear... :)

June,

Have you posted much to this page yet? If not you can just delete it and start over.  Otherwise as far as I know at this point, Facebook does not allow you to change the title.

I think if you moved and changed brokerages, as long as your brokerage name is not in your page title you would probably be fine to just keep the old page live, make your last post an explanation that you had moved, and then direct them to your new Facebook page.  That way you keep the search engine perks from your previous content and still send people to the right page.  Obviously this would be subject to broker approval and/or any Facebook regulations I may not know about, etc.  But it is probably a plug for putting your area and not your brokerage name in your page title.

I wish I had realized that I could not change the title when I started my page- now with 60+ fans I am not about to delete it.

Same here Christine, I don't like the title for my Tools For Real Estate business page and figured out too late I couldn't change it - but congrats on your 60 fans!

Hi Luiza,

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you, Mike Mueller has some good examples on his site, check here:  http://areweconnected.com/facebook/

He actually has a better page or post with all real estate Facebook pages but I can't find it right now.  (I'm not an affiliate of his, just saw he had good stuff. :)

Hope this helps!
