What does your front door say about you?

  doors

We've all heard that the front door is one of the most important elements in a house and it is true.  The front door not only echoes the architectural style of the home, but sets the tone for the rest of the home.  When we take a new listing, we stress the importance of the approach to the house; a clean walkway free of debris, potted flowers or plants to make a great first impression, clean and visible numbers, nicely painted or finished door, well lit, hardware in good working condition, avoid clutter, and please oh please make it CLEAN!  Spider webs are for Halloween (and maybe not even….see Halloween Decorations or DISTRACTIONS?)If you want to add your own personal touch, do it with the entrance matt or a wreath or simply with plants or flowers.

Great idea!  I send a weekly update to my sellers and potential sellers.  I always include a little extra "staging" suggestion.  I'll be sure to give you credit and link your website!

Yes, Leslie I took the pictures around the neighborhood.  I've always wanted to write something about doors, I find them fascinating!

You are too funny Dena and thanks for taking my suggestion Linda.

This sounds like this should be under the catagore of Curb appeal. I agree the front door in some homes you don't even want to touch

DOORS... we were actually tought in Design School too look at the front door. IT can INTSTANTLY tell what to expect inside.

I was JUST thinking about blogging on this exacty same subject. AND there is one street I travel on were all the homes are about the same size style and shape... but the doors tell the real story.

GREAT post.

Great post. It always seems like sellers spend lots of time shining and polishing inside, when the first and lasting impression starts with the front door. In additionto how it looks, how it opens & closes, does it sqeak, smell or otherwise detract from coming into the home! Good luck!

There is something about a front door... We took pics of a few in Italy this year... I would upload one or two but am having some difficulty with the AR upload.

Great tip!

Thank you for sharing

Just told a seller that they had to have their entry cleaned up. Wash the siding, door, and windows. This is so important at making a good impression on a buyer.

Hilarious! I was just getting ready to post about a cobwebbed front door I encountered when going to do a virtual tour last week. Naturally I didn't include the still on the tour...

But thanks for the reminder, Ines. It's certainly a curb appeal issue, and front doors are extremely important.
