BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: Unusual cool weather makes riding a pleasure!

What happened to The Dog Days of Summer? It was an unusually cool and rainy spring and it is now a very unusual PLEASANT July! In fact, this run of cool weather has broken a previous low temperature for July 21 in Nashville that was set when Rutherford B. Hayes was president! When the temperature at the National Weather Service station dipped to 58 degrees at 5:30 a.m. that morning, it wiped out the previous record low for the date of 60 degrees, which was set in 1877.

It's generally 5-10 degrees cooler up here on the Cumberland Plateau during the summer and the old-growth tree canopy in Big South Fork national park provides lovely shaded trails so this area has always been a destination for trail riders. Now, riders who get out at the reasonable hour of 8-9am can enjoy temps around 60, increasing to the mid-70's or low 80's as the day progresses.

We tied a new record high yesterday at 107 and we would love to have our weather back! If you could please figure out how to get our 60 degree nights back to us that would be great!

Yikes....107?! I lived in Vermont for 10 years, which was the other extreme. My father, who lived in Naples, Florida, would ask, "What's the temperature up there?" I'd reply, "20." He'd say, "Well, that's not too bad." Then I'd respond, "Dad....BELOW!!!" Read my blog called "What Is A Halfback?" and you'll know...."the rest of the story!"
