Maureen -- this is a great illustration of that phrase in the title of your post. Nice job convincing your sellers that everything had to go so that potential buyers could "see" what they were buying! Adding the round table & chairs was a good solution too for more dining space. (P.S. Did kitty or Fido leave their dish behind?? :-)

Maureen, great post! I go through the home with the sellers and we pack away just about everything! I like the title of your post.....very effective!

Simply stated, to the point and nicely illustrated with your photo Maureen. If this doesn't tell the story and convince "the needy" then what will?

Wow, at first glance, I didn't even notice the window, that certainly opens up the space. Nicely put!

Defining the eating area had a huge impact Maureen. Eliminating the clutter has shown just how spacious the kitchen is. Great example!

Maureen - HAHAHA I never notice that kind of stuff while I'm there but in the photo it seems glaring.

Cindy - so true you couldn't even see the window and there was little light getting into the kitchen as well.

The table and chairs are from Ikea, they were really inexpensive but look so chic.

Well Maureen, your photo speaks for itself. What difference in getting rid of the stuff can do. Love how you removed the bakers rack and added seating!

Maureen, You put it well....I wonder if my clients would think again if I put it that way. Some of them truly do not understand how important the appearence is behind all their old treasured mementos (and the need to remove them if they're selling!).

Really fabulous job! I know it is a lot of work to box up and remove things that you have collected, or routinely use (my house is currently on the market and I had to do it too) but in the end, your home will sell faster and you'll be able to move on with your life much more quickly!

A little editting definitely goes a long way! It also helps the client get started on their packing!!

Hey Maureen, I will be quoting you, when I enter the next home that needs to be cleaned up and staged your phrase "clutter eats equity" will come to mind.

Imagine covering up a window! Good job encouraging them to pare down. We have that table and chair set, too, and I love it. The table reminds me of some Barbie furniture I had when I was a girl...

Great post. Pictures say everything. I will not even take a kitchen picture until the countertops are what I call 'minimalized'. Also, rooms have to be clean and sellers MUST remove all extraneous stuff. I saw new listing pictures yesterday that made me shake my head in disgust. I can't even imagine how the listing agent could have allowed them to be on the internet where 80%+ buyers start their home search. Those pics sent anyone looking at them clicking to the next house.

I once asked a client to de-clutter and sugested a storge unit. He loved the idea. Apparently not the price. When I returned to stage before beginning showings he had rented a much cheaper POD and it was in the driveway with no plans to be moved.

I was horrified! On the other hand the home was de-clutttered. : )

I caught this on a reblog. I do love it! And its dead on advice that I give to any client that needs to pull out the boxes and pack like its sold.
