Today is the day that we in Utah celebrate the entry of the Pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24 1847, thus beginning the settlement of Utah by those of European descent.  This is called the Days of '47 or Pioneer days.  This morning many cities in the state have had parades, some will have Fireworks tonight, and some will be having Rodeos to mark this event.  All state offices are closed as well as some other businesses.

This is just to let you know what is going on if you're visiting our great State, and are unfamiliar with July 24th.  It is bigger than our statehood day which is January 4th, but then for many of us, a rodeo in January isn't a lot of fun, especially in smaller cities that do not have indoor arenas!  So if you're up this way and wondering if we have lost our minds, calendars, or track of time.  We are not late in celebrating July 4th, we are celebrating something different!

Have a great time, if you're near a parade, check it out, parades are always fun!

I remember the many Pioneer Day parades in Brigham City and Logan in my youth. So much fun for a little juvenile delinquent like me.
