So You've Added Me as an Associate...what is the least I can do for you?!

I was talking with Colleen Kulikowski awhile back, and she was explaining to me why she had taken the time, to organize the Associates she had added.  She said that by "grouping" your Associates, they will be easier to manage.  So I did.  Next, I thought, how can you utilize and benefit from the Associates you've added, and how do they benefit when you add them?

If I add you as an Associate, it may be for one or many reasons.  I either know you, like your Blog, maybe you left me a comment that really stood out, or what if I just like your picture because you look professional and nice.  Either way, I have chosen to add you to my Associates.

Today, as I was sorting through my Associates, reviewing their profiles, checking out their blogs and web-pages, I decided to look at their Associates.  That's when I realized the potential of the Associates list.  As I was reviewing "YOUR" Associates, I was reading the comments section, and what other members had written about you.  WOW!! It really had an impact on me. (enough so, that I had to write this post).

Next, I went back to mine to see what members had said about me... some comments were funny, some appreciative, but alot of them were blank!  And on yours too?!  Can I make a humble suggestion?  If you have added an Associate to your Active Rain profile, will you go back and make a short little comment about that individual?  We all comment on each others blogs many many times, day after day,  but this "one" comment might be the most important comment of all.  This is where other members and readers get to see what people say and think about you

This page itself, looks like a self propelling resume' of third party endorsements, references and referrals all in one!  When I was reading some of the comments, these are a couple that stood out to me!

  • Jeff Turner - YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS KEEP UP YOUR GOOD WORK.

  • Margaret Rome - A true lady that I would trust to represent me in any real estate transaction.

  • Rick & Ines - A nice Realtor couple combining forces for the consumer's benefit.

  • Sharon Simms - Super real estate broker and talented writer; #1 Florida blogger

  • Mike Mueller - Great individual to work with. Impossible to go wrong with him when chosen as a loan officer.

  • Maureen Henry - Maureen is a hard worker, a persistent learner, happy to help others and a good home stager.

  • Rich Jacobson- Very helpful to me as I was learning to navigate Active Rain. Great guy!

  • Maureen McCabe - For those going to or from Central Ohio, you MUST look up Maureen - simply the best  there is.

  • Jeff Belonger- Jeff is the sort of person that takes his work seriously, and adds the personal touch. He knows the value of the human side of this business. To him, you are not just numbers on a page or a FICO score. He will go the extra mile to get the loan you need, when you need it.

  • Colleen Kulikowski - Awesome Realtor & an expert in Marco Island.

  • Kristal Kraft - Great gal, great innovator, one of the nation's best utilizers of real estate websites.

I know you won't get AR points if you leave a nice comment on your Associates, but you may score BIG POINTS with them and their readers.  Be a good member, do a good deed, pay it forward, and go place a comment in everyone of the Associates you've added, and hopefully they'll pay it forward.  Sorry if you have 236, but trust me, it will be worth it!  :-)

Remember to make your comment professional, honest, and sincere.  This is where your comment will "STAND OUT" more than any other place on the rain, so make it count.   Help out your Associates.  It's kind of the same theory as the Linkedin Network

(You can also go back and change or update comments as you get to know your Associates better).

You are probably wondering who had the most associates and comments?  That might be another post later :)  I wanted to make it easy for you to

...me!   (Big Smile)  :-)  and if you do, then don't forget to    (Bigger Smile) :->)

104 Comments on So You've Added Me as an Associate...what is the least I can do for you?!

Imagine my surprise when I added an associate who turned out to be another broker's client left a comment about how I helped them finally get the vacation home they had been trying for - I really did as I was covering for their agent while she was out of town - but it blew me away his kindness - if you need an IDX guy check him out on my associates his name is Chad and he and his wife are wonderful people

Brad, this is an excellent reminder.  When I first started, I put comments on all my associates, but I need to go back and update.  When someone accepts your invitation to the Rain they are automatically assigned associate status but without comments.  You've given me yet another project.  =)  This post has been duly rated!

Great suggestion.  I admit I'm guilty of just adding people and not putting in an additional comment or tidbit....

06/06/2007 04:20 AM by Kaushik Sirkar (Call Realty, Inc.)

Brad,

Thanks for posting about this. I now have another task on my A/R laundry list. LOL! Thank you :)

06/06/2007 05:46 AM by Suzanne Sands-Somerset, MA Real Estate (Century 21 Associates Realty)

Brad,  I have never made a commentary when adding associates but will have to think about it.  Noticed one downside while reviewing the comments that stood out in your mind.  I can agree Colleen is Awesome but she has moved and may not be working the Marco Island area anymore.

06/06/2007 06:18 AM by Dan Cummings - Connecticut's Running Realtor (Raveis Real Estate)

Good things come to those who are kind---I firmly believe this mantra and try to apply it to my own life.  Thanks for a wonderful and inspiring post.

06/06/2007 06:38 AM by Diane Bell, Hilton Head Real Estate, Bluffton (Charter 1 Real Estate, Hilton Head, Bluffton, SC)

Brad - hmmmm, I never thought about this before.  And I don't think I've ever seen anyone write anything about this.  I had noticed that some people had comments beside their associates, some but not all.  I have not done that at all on any of mine, didn't know what the benefit to doing that would be.  Now I know of at least one, thanks to your post.  As Dan mentioned above, if you add comments to everyone on your associate list, you do need to make sure they're kept current.

Thanks for this informative post!

Thanks for the reminder.  I didn't even know you could do this until I went searching, thanks to your post.  I went in and made comments next to everyone that I have added.

06/06/2007 07:23 AM by Becky Troutt, REALTOR® ~Hillsborough & Manatee Counties~ (Reynolds Realty of Manatee Inc)

Brad, this is a wonderful idea.  I had noticed that many of my associates had left blank comments, too.

06/06/2007 07:25 AM by Brian Schulman - Your Lancaster County, PA Real Estate Professional (Coldwell Banker Select Professionals)

Brad- I never even knew what to write, so I always left them blank.  I will fix them now though... and I have to go check out what people are saying about me.  Oh, yeah... I'll click those two buttons you suggested too.

06/06/2007 07:35 AM by Syracuse/ Central New York Real Estate| Christina Lackey (Coldwell Banker Prime Properties)

Brad, very nice post.   This brings to light how we can impact each others business with very little effort.  I just added you as an associate because of this post.

Brad - thanks.  I needed to know this.  I love reading posts that hit a point of something I was thinking about or wondering how it works.  I added you as an associate and I subscribed.  Knowledge is powerful and your posts are full of information.  I am in the process of going back and reading all your blogs.  They have great pictures and are eye catching.

I put under your comments of why I chose you as an associate is that I was impressed by your animated pictures (that was my first impression), now I will add comment about your power packed blogs.         Thanks again!

Brad, what a spendid idea.

As you said, AR page is a critical marketing tool. A comment from another associate could be the deciding factor when someone is looking for a quality realtor

Thanks for this helpful post. Have added you as an associate, subscribed to your blog, and made a comment.

Much appreciated,

Brad, I love your call to action at the end. Okay, you got me! I can't resist your blogs or the fact we have such a great contributor to the community right here in NorCal.

Great info.

Brad, thanks for the suggestion. As a relative newcomer to AR, I've found that there is a lot to learn about using it, navigating it, and just plain enjoying it.  I'm going to look ata my associates list right now.

Brad, I had written a post awhile back asking for an explanation and purpose of adding associates as I have been added by some, but never understood why.  Thanks for shedding light and bringing purpose to "associates."  I will go check mine out now and make the necessary additions.

06/06/2007 09:31 AM by Maureen Henry - Rockland Home Staging (www.rocklandhomestaging.com)

Now I know.  I was wondering what the purpose of adding associates was all about.  I did notice that some people comment about others and most don't.  I will make an effort from now on.  Thanks for the info.

06/06/2007 09:43 AM by Venice Harris - Conyers, GA Real Estate Agent (Solid Source Realty Atlanta)

Great idea, Brad. I will be the first to admit I have NOT done this at all. I like adding associates, and being added, but have been remiss in making comments. Good suggestion, now to take the time to do so.

I particularly like having a list of other agents around the country that I would want to refer to if I could. Developing the associates list has been very helpful and I have used it several times already.

Nice post Jeff - You never know what can come from adding yourself as an associate. I have received many emails after I added myself as an associate. Sometimes they are great information and sometimes they are just trying to sell me something. But you never know - these connections can do something down the road that we would never expect.

06/06/2007 09:59 AM by Abraham Chaffin - Cambria Real Estate (Sand Shell Realty)

Thanks Brad.......great idea. I was wondering what do do with that area. I've already subscribed to you but don't think I've added you as an associate. Great benefit of belonging to AR......networking with other real estate professionals!

Brad, this was a great post.  I think many of us have wondered about how to really utilize this feature on Active Rain.  This post added a lot of good insight & I'll be reviewing & adding to my list to reflect some of your suggestions.  Thanks.

Brad: I went into the associate section but cannot figure out how to add comments. When I click on the names, it takes me directly to the associate profile page. Has anyone figured out how to do that other than removing the associate and starting over?

06/06/2007 10:22 AM by Mesa, Arizona Real Estate *** Teri Ellis, Broker, ABR,CRS,GRI,ePRO,MRE (Homes Arizona Real Estate LLC)

Teri, I had the same problem til I noticed the little pencil icon.  Click on that and you can add the comments.

06/06/2007 12:26 PM by Ronda Myers-Waters (Willems Realtors, Principal Broker)

thanks for the mention.  I went back in an added comments on a few more of my associates today and will try to add more comments.

I had my associates neatly sorted and catgorized by where I knew them from but dumped them into a big nondescript lump when an Active Rainer (?) started using the associates categories for spamming / mischief.

06/06/2007 12:37 PM by Maureen McCabe - Central Ohio real estate (Real Living HER)

I've haven't paid to much attention to the associates list as it has turned into a buddy list, like on MySpace, to me.

06/06/2007 01:43 PM by Jeff Geoghan MBA - Lancaster PA Real Estate Expert (Coldwell Banker Select Professionals)

Great point, Brad. I'll have to add this to my TO Do list.

I've noticed that you're now able to drag and drop an associate's position - however, it seems to be effective only for a single screen - then you have to find your way back and do another screen - a long process. Is there a shortcut I'm missing to take someone from near the bottom to near the top?

I have been negligent in this whole associates thing.  I tend to just get on and bounce around the blogs.  Funny how I end up at some of the same blogs over and over that way.  Also funny how I discover new talent that way.

06/06/2007 03:34 PM by Chris Lengquist, RIPS (Keller Williams Realty)

Brad,

Haven't really thought about the associate side that much, but now that you opened my eyes, I'll have to go deeper into it. It's true that your comments are also read by many others, so stay on topic and be professional.

Thank you for your suggestions.  Although I had not realized just how important those associates comments could be until I read this, I will certainly go back and add pertinent comments to each one.
