GARDENS FOR THE BIRDS!

Birds require food, shelter and water to survive, most back yards are visited by at lease a few birds, but they are more likely to frequent places that provide all three requirements rather then just one.
Food: Finches are seed eaters, mockingbirds perfer berries, wrens and woodpeckers eat mostly insects, of course the beautiful and fast hummingbird drinks nectar. They love mimosa blossoms.

You can grow a wide range of plants, perennials such as purple coneflower, scarlet sage and asters. Some annuals are salvia, fuchsias, cosmos and sunflowers. Of course if you have dogwoods, hollies, pine and oak trees these will not only provide food but shelter. You can make your landscape a huge bird feeder, depending on what you grow.
Birds appreciate fresh, clean water as much as we do, change the water frequently to keep it inviting. A traditional pedestal birdbath is inexpensive and can be set up in a few minutes. If you follow these easy steps you will attract birds to your garden in greater numbers or wider variety.

Hi Barbara,
Nice post about gardening or the birds. I know this is right up your alley! My favorite are the humming birds. I planted a new lilac tree and it doens' look to good. I haven't seen any hummingbirds either....
