HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE BILL GOING DOWN -- REFORM IS WORKING!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty of the Palm Beaches

I am still shaking my head in amazement, but after a short visit with my insurance agent, my homeowners insurance bill is going down significantly and it was not even painful.

This is great news for homeowners and home shoppers in Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, North Palm Beach, Juno Beach, Jupiter and throughout Palm Beach County.

I wrote the other day about the 58% increase in my homeowners insurance this year without ever putting in a claim or increasing coverage.

A visit to the State Farm Insurance agent revealed that my insurance bill could be reduced if I had an inspector come out to the house to certify the construction of the building.  I am remembering now that some of the discussion about insurance reform related to providing incentives to homeowners whose residences were constructed in a fashion that would minimize damage in a severe storm.

The inspector came yesterday and the aspects of the house he certified as being eligible for insurance discount included the roof shape -- a Hip roof seems to be best; the accordian shutters we installed three years ago; the exterior wall frame being reinforced masonry or concrete -- your basic CBS construction; the roof covering material -- ours is tile which seems to meet the requirements of the Florida Building Code and, the type of roof deck attachment used -- our is at least 8d common nails with 6'/6' nailing pattern.

This is all fairly technical information, but the inspection cost just $150 and the savings should amount to about $2000.  Not a bad investment.

You might want to check this out with your insurance agent.

Yeah! Carol,

We had the inspector come and got our insurance reduced last year.  We have been singing the praises ever since.  We tell every one of our customers going in so they get the best price on insurance to start with.
