Mom's Prescription For the Healthcare Reform Act....Let the legislators go first

OK, so this weekend I go up to my farm in Wisconsin for a kids weekend.  I leave my wife home so that she can have her reunion with her college buddies while I take my 5 kids and my niece with me to the farm for the weekend.  My brother, Mark, lives close by in the booming metropolis of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  We hook on Saturday.  He's there with his 8 kids and then mom and dad stop by on the way to their vacation home up in Door County.  Health Care Reform Act

While we're having some fun banter on politics and solving the world's problems, the topic then turns to the  Health Care Reform Act.

Now what I'm about to say is Non Partisan!  My grandfather, Otto Bettag, was a Republican elected in a Democratic city of Chicago.  My Grandfather Vogel was an attorney who helped Democrats John F. Kennedy and Franklin Roosevelt get elected to the white house. As a result, I got it from both ends.

DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS SHOULD JOIN TOGETHER AND INSIST ON THE FOLLOWING.  Mom's idea is this....

MAKE THE REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS WHO VOTED TO PASS THIS LAW CARRY THIS EXACT INSURANCE FOR 7 YEARS as the experimental guinea pigs.  Constituents from both parties are protected.  I don't want them to participate in the law, but participate in the Exact Insurance that will be provided under this new law.  You see, my mom said that if we did this for 7 years that those who are in office after this next term would experience the true affect of what the Health Care Reform Act in the long run.  If it's acceptable to them, then we can roll it out to the public at large.  If not, then back to the drawing board.  Let's put their families and spouses and children and ex-wives on this insurance plan to make sure that they really are representing their constituents.

My personal feeling is that socialized or goverment run health care is bad.  Just ask the Canadians.  My brothers (all 3 are doctors as is my dad and grandfather)  have patients that pay cash to come to the states to get their health care rather than go into Canada's socialized system.  BUT ALL OF THAT IS IRRELEVANT!

If this program is so good, then our legislators should lead by example.  Republicans and Democrats alike.  This is a bi-partisan bill.  Let's have bi partisan leadership and say that the minute this law becomes active, we have leaders who sooooooooooooooooooooo value their constiuency that they say, let's test drive this model for you.  That, my friends, is real leadership.  I'd say contact your local media outlet and pass this on.  Contact your local senator who voted for this and tell them that this is what you expect from leadership such as what they provide. Thanks Mom!  You may just be onto something here!

This Could Be the First Time that Republicans and Democrats Unite!

Hi Larry, kudos to your Mom but I doubt our stalwart elected representatives would ever allow themselves to walk in our shoes unless we change the system.

Imagine how much publically funded elections would bring them over to our side and away from special interests.

Hey your Mom may have started something. I just went to facebook to post your blog and I came across this group on Facebook.

Spread THEIR wealth around

We agree with Obama that spreading the wealth around is a good idea - but we want to spread THEIR wealth around - specifically, Obama's, Biden's and EVERY member of congress - we propose that they share the suffering of Americans that THEY created through their incompetence and greed - we propose that THEY take a 15% pay cut and donate the resulting $15,000,000 annually to Soldiers Angels - why does Obama think it's a good idea for us, but not for them? We are tired of the hypocrisy and double standards - they are incompetent, and Obama agrees that spreading the wealth around is a good thing - so let's start with THEM!!!

I agree and have voiced this to my congressman. His office said that they have recieved very little feedback on the bill. I am shocked that everyone is not calling and voicing an opinion on this.

You gotta wonder why the Congress has it's own healthcare system.  More or less an Orwellian Animal House prediction of how future govenrments will work.

Congress needs to walk the walk!

Larry:  This time... I kinda sorta actually agree with you.  Except, that is, for one thing.  Rather than have all of the Republicans and Democrats who vote to PASS this bill be subject to the health care plan they pass for seven years... I think ALL of them... those who vote for and against the plan... be subject to it.

That way... we will NOT have any of those who just sit by... hoping that a horrible plan passes so that during the election process in 2010 they can all say... "see... we told you so... it's a bad plan, so elect us and we'll fix it."

All of them... the 435 in the House, and the 100 in the Senate... ALL of them should work together to pass the best plan they can... and toss party politics out the window.  And then... once it is passed... then your Mom's idea kicks into gear.  Seven years of living with it... and then we'll see.

What do you think ?  Total accountability... from both parties.

Larry - interesting post. I have another bi-partisan idea.

How about the government gives to every American the same platinum level single-payer government health care thar our representatives get? From what I understand, it is a very nice health care program, run by the U.S. government, that the reps get for life - even after they are out of office! I'd be happy with that.

Charles....I think that your congress person is lying.  Mine has said that this has been a call inundation bill.  Just ridiculous.

Sally....I would love for this to be some sort of ground swell movement.

Janice....myself as well.

Karen Anne.....I have toyed with this as well.  I do think that it could be unilateral.  We'd definitely hear what works and doesn't work right away, wouldn't we?  I'm all for your ideas here.  I'd work on the committee with you.

Jackie....I'd love to see that plan published and see how that compares to what has been published for Joe Q. Public.

Larry,

If I heard the news correctly, lawmakers are exempt from having to participate in the plan for 7 years.  They get to keep what they have.

I think if they vote for it they should automatically be enrolled the day after it passes.  Obama - is first in line.

I agree completely Larry.  I also think they should be the first to take all vaccines they come up with before issuing it to the public.  Lead by example.  After all Obama has given Baxter complete immunity for any issues that may arise from their swine flu vaccine.

Laurie....that, for sure, would bankrupt some of them.

Bonnie....I think Obama, the Republicans and the Democrats.  All off them.  Good enough for the goose, then good enough for the gander, wouldn't you agree?

Tony....that is soooooooooooooooooooooo whatever?  Wow!

larry, i agree with Karen Anne, they should all have to participate.

Honestly the duplicity is unforgivable. How can they do this to "us" and exempt "them".

Same thing with Social Security.

Your mom is one smart cookie Larry!  I wholeheartedly agree with her!!

No one in Congress and especially obama would ever take the Healthcare Plan that is written in the House!

Do you read the bill that is would...

1) Make approx 100,000,000 people lose their private insurance right away and then the rest of us in short order?

2) Give a Health Czar CONTROL to mandate all healthcare coverage?

3) Give the government the CONTROL to deny anyone healthcare treatment, medicine and procedures?
