Do your research before you move-Know what to expect before the bill!! As important as family, climate and housing is when choosing a place to retire --taxes shouldn't be overlooked said Eve Evans, co-author of the new edition of America's Best Low-Tax retirement Towns.

"Relocation to a low-tax town could result in more disposable income and a better standard of living."

One in 10 seniors now moves out of state to retire and that number will grow as more boomers retire. Boomers have changed jobs and crisscrossed across the country more than their parents ever did. People should start considering where they want to retire 3-5 years prior to the day and really do their research. It will pay off in the long run!

Visit your choices of retirement and get a feel of the local environment, talk to the people, drive around and get advice from a Real Estate Agent.

Retirement living.com, which advises aspiring retirees on popular places to settle down ans just updated its web-site with current information.

Because property and sales tax rates can vary widely within a state, retirees should focus on the taxes of the towns they are considering says Ms. Evans.. "For much of your life,your job dictates where you live," says Fred Brock, author of Retire on Less Than You Think. " But when you retire, you're finally in control."

Many retirees live on modest income but are property rich, so their property tax bill is crucial. The state with the highest property tax burdens are new Jersey, New Hampshire and Connecticut.
