I just discovered a site where you can convert PDS, JPG, TIFF, AND BMP files to text. It is a free service and you do not even provide your email address.
There are a few restrictions with regards to size of file and the number you can convert in an hour.
Give it a try you might find some use for this service.

How do you convert jpg, tff, or bmp to TEXT? They are image files?
Personally, I use Open Office, which will convert the normal text files back and forth between formats. I cna even copy a pdf and paste it into OP and save in some other format, or convert TO pdf from another format.
Looking at the site, this is an OCR program, in that it recognizes characters in an image... so if someone sends you a JPG of a document, it can turn the JPG into text. Is it fussy about the image being straight, etc.? I haven't used any OCR's since the time I was trying to get a 100-page book into shape to edit and didn't want to have to type it out by hand... but the OCR was so buggy that I ended up spending as much time reading for corrections as if I had typed it from scratch! What's your experience? Limitations on font size? Font styles? Line spacing? Good to know if it works... :)
