I installed a bathroom fan in a bathroom yesterday that was in definite need of a fan. The walls were covered with mold. The lady who owned the home has been living there for around 30 years and she said her children would always take showers in that bathroom with the door closed and no ventilation. We installed the fan in front of the shower so the moisture would be pulled close to the source. I vented the ducting from the fan out of the gable end of the home.
As an Asheville home inspector I see many bathrooms with out fans or the fan is located far away from the shower. It's very important to call a licensed electrician and have this problem corrected for anyone who needs extra ventilation in a bathroom. A window is not enough, most people will not bother to open that window before a shower.
