When selling a home we all know it starts at the curb.  If you can't get them in, how are you ever going to sell it?

Today I would like to focus on once you get them through the front door.  What do you see?  First impressions are extremely important.  They convey a feeling and set you up for what to expect as you tour the home.  If you lose them in the important "first 10 seconds" the likelihood of recapturing them throughout the rest of the tour is minimal.

This is a before/after photo of a home in Leaf River, IL that Simply Staged worked on this week.  The photo was taken from the front door.  It is the important "first 10 seconds" as you enter the home.

As you can see in the "after" photo, the fireplace and hardwood floors are stunning.  In fact, the hardwoods were milled from trees taken directly from the property.  Too important of an feature to be lost in the photograph or covered with furniture.

If your home is currently on the market, what are your "first 10 seconds" saying?

Michele ~ What a fantastic illustration of the importance of "showing" the home's best features.  Those floors were hidden before, and the flow was stopped cold by the furniture layout. Great post!

Hi Michele,

Wow, I think 10 seconds is mighty generous! That first pic turned me off at 1.5.

The staged image is nothing short of miraculous on how it affected my attention span and interest.

Excellent post and excellent work!

Thank you Sheila, Cathy & Beverly for your kind words!!  The room is very generous in size, you just could not tell with it's furniture layout.

That furniture was like a barrier, definitely not inviting the buyer in but keeping them away. I really like the gentle angle, it's so welcoming now!

So many people just cover their treasure unknowingly.  You did a great job, THAT is what I would love seeing walking in the front door.

I have a moto I use at my consultations, it always gets a laugh, breaks the tension and it works.  "NO STUFF ALLOWED!" (I am a huge George Carlin fan)

Michele, this is why we tell some sellers that they need to consult a stager! What a difference and curb appeal goes without saying.

So much better after your staging, Michele!  All I could see in the "before" photo where those wrinkled bedsheets behind the sofa.  Not the most positive first impression.  After staging, now I see a beautiful hardwood floor and fabulous fireplace.

I remember when looking at houses if the outside was a turn off I was interested in the inside.
