Active Rain - Is it Due To Explode Due To Realtor Magazine?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

For those that have been members of Active Rain from the beginning and even for those that have recently joined.  If you have been amazed by the growth of Active Rain to date, wait to see what happens if Realtor Magazine does what they tell me they are going to do.

Last night (6/5/07)a representative from Realtor Magazine sent me an email stating verbatim: "I'm putting together an article on the promotional benefits of having a presence on Active Rain, and would like to include you in the piece".  His email asked me to answer the questions below so it could be included in his article.  He asked me to reply by the deadline of 6/7/2007 so that the article can be prepared for printing. The questions asked were as following:

QUESTIONNAIRE: KEY PROMOTIONAL BENEFITS OF SOCIAL NETWORKING

  4. How much time do you spend each week further promoting your Realty on Active Rain?

If indeed this is for real and if indeed Realtor Magazine prints the article promoting Active Rain be prepared for an explosion of membership beyond yours or my wildest imagination!  What would a doubling or tripling of membership in a matter of a few months mean for all the members and what do you envision for the future of Active Rain?

I think we may see an increase in Active Rain membership, but how many do you think will actually be active on the site on a consistent basis? I know that many of the individuals I invited and that registered have never posted, and a few have not even completed their profile. So my guess is that they do not read many of the posts either. Just wondering.

Lisa, that is the million dollar question.  Many of us can't wait to see how that article will be written.  Have a great day.

You know, I'm always a little cynical when someone puts out an article about practices of Realtors.  Maybe I should be more open-minded, if the print media is REALTOR Magazine.  I look forward to the article (and I'll be annoyed if the people I've invited in the past suddenly join due to the article, and not due to my invite...  lol).

George- Good Grief.. I can barely keep up now with just 33,000.. personally I think we may see more members but the question is how active will they really be.. takes a lot to keep a blog going and many fall off very quickly..

What do you think of the validity of the statement: " As for REALTOR mag - they are antiquated at best when it comes to technology and there is politics involved. The fact that they would recommend a blogging platform that doesn't get a REALTOR's message out as well as nother platform should be an excellent indication of their competence!"

This was sort of a "your mother wears Army boots" kind of comment from someone on an entry on my blog where I mentioned and linked to this entry.   It was one of the least contentious comments on the entry. What politics would there be involved between ActiveRain and REALTOR® Magazine?

Hmmm Maureen, I don't know what to think about that comment.  I know the magazine is read but I don't know how much credibility it is given.  I know I also skim through it and look for something that catches my interest.  Thanks for the comment and have a great day.
