As a service to Oyster Bay-East Norwich community, here is the OYSTER BAY - East Norwich Community Bulletin Board for August 2009 and beyond .  These events and things are what make Oyster Bay - East Norwich community a nice place to live, work and play.  I grouped them according to clubs and date of events.  There are plenty of activities which make for an enjoyable summer days and beyond.

EAST NORWICH FIRE DEPT.

THIS Sunday, August 2nd-  PANCAKE BREAKFAST / CAR WASH FUNDRAISER TO SUPPORT A LOCAL FAMILY IN NEED.  The EN Volunteer Fire Company is holding this event to support EN firefighter Gary Wessel, who is recovering from a massive brain bleed stemming from an aneurism suffered on June 11, 2009.  The EN Junior Firefighters will also be holding a car wash that day.  ALL PROCEEDS OF THE BREAKFAST AND CAR WASH WILL GO TO THE WESSEL FAMILY FOR GARY'S MEDICAL AND LIVING EXPENSES.  Please support those who support all of us.  If you would like to make a donation outside of the above, please contact Tom Bradke of the EN Fire Dept. FRIENDS OF THE BAY

Saturday, August 1st and Wednesday, August 5th -  WATER CHESTNUT PULL DAY (via Friends of the Bay-  922-6666 and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service).  Join in the effort to control the spread of Water Chestnut at Mill Pond, directly impacting the quality of the Oyster Bay National Wildlife Refuge.  Canoes, life vest/jackets (limited, so bring what you can), baskets (limited, so bring what you can), lunch and refreshments will be provided.  Volunteers MUST BE AT LEAST 18, and should wear shoes and clothing that can get wet (shorts recommended), sunscreen, and insect repellent.

 NASSAU RED CROSS SWIM-A-CROSS on August 8th, starting at Centre Island Beach in Bayville.  Swimmers can choose to swim a mile, half mile, or quarter mile, with a 50 yard swim along the shoreline for swimmers ages 8-12.  Swimmers are encouraged to raise funds as part of this event to benefit the Red Cross.  For more information, call 747-3500 or visit www.nassauredcross.org

TR SANCTUARY AND AUDUBON CENTER.  Children ages 4-12 explore the Sanctuary's 15 acre outdoor classroom, traveling the trails and investigating the wildlife, with experienced educators guiding them through hands-on activities.  On select Fridays, ages 8-15 are led on guided group outings to local area attractions.  Programs run until August 27th, Monday to Friday from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.  For more information, call 922-3200.
