Living in the Raleigh North Carolina area, we're lucky enough to be within 2 hours of the North Carolina coast and beaches, or a few hours drive to the mountains and the gorgeous city of Asheville, North Carolina.

Probably best known for the "Biltmore" mansion and it's wineries, Asheville also has an active art and music community.

My family is lucky enough to have friends that live close to Asheville so we are able to visit this area fairly often. There's always something new to do or someplace to explore.

Last weekend Asheville was holding it's annual Bele Chere street festival. Many streets were blocked off to make way for all the craft booths and food vendors.

With 4 stages set up for music, each one hosting a band with a different genre, music filled the air wherever you walked.  

And if you weren't watching a band, there was a good chance that a street musician, many in the "frozen statue type" costumes. was entertaining a nearby group of people.

Of course downtown Asheville has a plethora of unique restaurants and pubs, so finding somewhere to eat and enjoy some drinks was only made difficult by the many choices we had.

One of the best parts of Asheville is the gorgeous  architecture on the old buildings.

As with street festivals in big cities and little towns across the nation, the best part is usually people watching. Asheville was no exception. The residents seem to take pride in being a little "weird", and making sure that Asheville stays that way!
