Two Other Careers Helped Me Become A Better Maine Real Estate Broker.

Few of us are born and right off the bat know the path we are on, the career we want to immerse ourselvesmaine farming aerial image, andrew mooers farm in.

The career is an evolution, shaped by live experiences, personal desires and passion for the profession that folks in here, this venue call real estate. Earlier on, I grew up on a Maine potato farm. And we blogged about it on another channel this morning, with a hot cup of coffee.

When you consider the course of events that lead to being involved in the real estate industry, all the other side experiences up to now, help shape the type, the flavor of real estate practioner we all are. It defines the "style", the image and brand we ooze.

The essence of who we are, why we are who we are. Growing up on a Maine farm taught me work ethic, family pride in that farm.

Graduating into broadcasting helped me express myself and to promote that small town, Maine farm experience that many city dwellers are after. More now than ever. What is your life path and how did you end up reading this blog, working in these circles? I'll be thinking of my real job while I am bouncing across a field bush hogging next week. What do you do for rest and relaxation, a labor of love you don't consider work but that recharges you, defines you?

What a transition-  potatoe farmer to realtor.  I believe any previous job experience can be utilized in our current profession to our benefit.  I fall in line with MLK jr's philospophy:  "If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry.  He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well."

Andrew, I find every day that my work experience from 28 jobs prior to real estate gave me endless knowledge that I call on daily to perform my duties as a real estate agent. Every experience, good or bad in this profession gives you more knowledge to navigate the waters in this thing we call real estate! Your work ethic is probably your greatest asset!

I had two successful related careers before I came into real estate.  Both taught me a strong worth ethic, how to make deals come together and how to work well with people at all levels.  I don't think there are many people who go to school and say "I want to be a Realtor when I grow up" and I value the lessons my other careers taught me.

We learn from everything we do (or don't do) on our life's journey, with backgrounds (there are two of us) in finance, broadcasting ( me too!), and retail, we draw from our knowledge to bring better services to our clients and build our business. Oh and of course the school of hard knocks!
Most of our fellow Realtors all had a "former life"! Real estate is very rarely a first career!

Very interesting post and thought provoking. I thought I followed in my folks foot steps and that is how I got here. I always thought that is how most folks got where they are. I wonder how many got where they are by following their folks.

I just have always loved owning my own business and Real Estate is the third and they have all been a people type business.
