Cynthia,  The New GI BILL is long over due and a most welcome benefit.    Besides the GI BILL there are other educational opportunities for spouses.    One of our tenants is a military spouse taking advantage of a special Educational Assistance program here at Fort Benning.  The following information  pertains to Ft. Free Educational Grants & Scholarships

Army Emergency Relief provides the Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program (SSEAP) for spouses and dependent children up to a Bachelors degree. The Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program (SSEAP) is a need-based education assistance program designed to provide spouses of active duty and retired Army Soldiers, and widows(ers) of Army Soldiers who died either on active duty or in a retired status, and residing in the United States, with financial assistance in pursuing educational goals. The purpose of the program is education assistance program designed to provide spouses of active duty and retired Army Soldiers, and widows(ers) of Army Soldiers who died either on active duty or in a retired status, and residing in the United States, with financial assistance in pursuing educational goals. The purpose of the program is to assist spouses/widows(ers) in gaining the education required to allow them to qualify for increased occupational opportunities. Click here for more information.

The Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (CAA) project is a demonstration with a limited time duration (ends in 2010). CAA helps military spouses get the training and education they need for careers that will persist during multiple relocations. The Department of Labor (DOL) and Department of Defense (DoD) have co-sponsored this time-limited CAA demonstration for spouses of service members assigned to Fort Benning. Military Spouses Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) provides up to $6,000 of financial assistance for eligible spouses directly to participating schools or other programs. If they are already listed in the MyCAA system, a spouse and his/her school or other programs are ready to proceed with their request for financial assistance. If not, the military spouse needs to click "Can't Find School" on the MyCAA website to request that his/her school or other program be added. MyCAA financial assistance will pay for expenses such as post-secondary education and training, tuition, licensing, and credentialing fees. It does not pay for computers, school application fees, graduation fees, student activity cards, child care, parking, transportation, medical services or testing fees.
