I know I am supposed to be positive, but you asked the question, "But what do I have to loose?" It is still considered link exchange and a form of reciprocal linking. Recently Google out right baned for 30 or more days the websites of people who were using state pages for reciprocal links, they also said they would be keeping a close eye on the real estate industry and getting more strict if needed. I am not saying that google will find what you are doing by posting all of that in one blog to be the same as a state page on someones website, but I would not want to give them the chance to make that decision.

So in answer to your question "But what do I have to loose?" you have everything to loose if the decition goes against you.

Like I said, I was not trying to be negative, just trying to point out that is it not a good idea to give google or yahoo a excuse to look more close at your practices. All I am trying to do is make sure that google stays out of this rather than trying to draw them in. Helping is the KW way, and I am trying to stay with in that.

James Where did you get that information about Google banning sites and looking closer at the linking strategies? My site is about a year old and I have been doing a mix of seo stuff like reciprical linking and just creating good content on my site to climb the ladder. Right now, I am #2 and #5 respectively for Yahoo and google for Seattl MLS listings. I'd like to keep it that way. I recently started searching out link partners and have selective in that I only have sites that have a PR of 3 or more. I'd say the ave link I have to me is a 4 which is pretty good I think because I see many sites that have lots and lots of links and there doesn't seem to be any concern for PR when they choose to link.

I am starting to believe that if you place the focus on creating relevant content that is useful and regularly updated, then your PR will come.

Thoughts? Comment?

Very good that you are being selective. From what I have seen you should now be even more selective about your links and other than in a very select few cases you should not do direct reciprocal links. Contextual links are still probably ok. (Contextual means, usable information about you, with a link or two to you that home buyers and or sellers who are looking in your service areas are likly to find and read with interest). Here is a link to a thread where this was very very hotly debated. The definitive answer is not given, becouse Google does not give definitive answers, but read specifically what the posters in that thread who were penalized had to say.

Very informative reading.

Relavent and unique content is the best, Links area close second but the higher quality links the better. I assume you would not pay for a link from a Directory which would then put you on a page with 50 other realtors right? The link juice from that page is so watered down. It would be like mixing frozen concentrate orange juice. The directions say one can concentrate juice 2 cans water, but instead you put one can concentrate juice 5 gallons water. What would that taste like?

So, this post was posted in 2007 and many things have changed. First and foremost, I am not building a LINK FARM. This is a way to promoted agents and ask for referrals with agents you have a connection with. This is one of my most visited pages in Active Rain. I want to start a new one with up to date info.

If you look at the comments, you will see things talking about being delist by google. Again, I am not promoting a LINK FARM, I just want to have links back to your page and have a way for others to find you. Backlinks WORK.
