I couldn't resist sharing the interesting window and interior door casings is a 1928 English-influenced bungalow in the Vollintine-Evergreen section of Midtown Memphis.  The Midtown Section of Memphis is a treasure of bungalows buillt between 1920 and 1930, in a variety of styles.

Most of  the original red gum casings and moldings have long been painted over, so it is a real treat to find the beautiful, smooth-grained original wood.  I have never seen this type of casing corners, though.(also not the dainty picture rail running all the way to the window on the right.

Also, although painted, this closet door follows the same theme. This reminded me of art deco laden interior scenary from the movies of the 1930s.

Hi Joe ~ I love old woodwork and trim. To paint or not to paint - that's always a struggle.  I confess to really liking the painted version in your photos - the detail really pops and I love the color.

Joe, finding original, unpainted trim is a real treat! I have never seen corners like those in your photos. They make me think of the Hercule Poirot movies made from Agatha Christie's books. Thanks!

Maria, they kind of reminded me of some of the lush art deco interiors that Nick and Nora Charles hung out in in The Thin Man series.

I have never seen casings like that either and I have been into thousands of homes of that vintage.

I've never seen that kind of casing either - and I really like it. It is kind of Art Deco-ish, isn't it?

Debi,

Yes, very. Once in a while you run across a real gem.  All the door and window casings throughout the house are that style.  There just isn't craftsmanship like that today (unless it is laser-etched into plastic).
