Mike and Kathy Carl

Last night I cried myself to sleep...I learned of the passing of my friend, fellow REALTOR and awesome person, Mike Carl who along with his wonderful wife and my good friend Kathy made up Team No Limits of Keller Williams Heritage.  Many of us are mourning the unexpected passing of someone who always had a great positive attitude, always had a warm smile, always made you laugh and loved working as a REALTOR with his wife and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

I was particularly shocked...because I was just talking to Mike at the ribbon cutting ceremony for our new board of REALTORS office.  I walked in the door to a crowded room of Chamber of Commerce officials, local dignitaries and fellow REALTORS and the first person who smiled, waved and called me over for a hug, was Mike.  He was always like that.  He always had a smile, a hug and something to say that would make me laugh.  We laughed after I complimented him on the beautiful job that he and his Knights of Columbus Color Guard did at our TAR Region 7 meeting luncheon the month before.  I was teasing him about how nice he looked with his hat and big plume sticking off of it.  He said he thought he should bring out the plume more often.

Kathy and I have known each other for years...we met when we were both with Coldwell Banker years ago before Mike retired and joined her in the real estate business.  He joined her and we were all so delighted to get to spend time with him.  He was always so much fun to be around.  I got the honor of getting to know Mike better when I was REALTOR of the year and his wife won the honor the year after me.  I got to present the award to her at our annual gala and it is kept a secret until the award presentation.  I called Mike to have him help me "get the scoop" on Kathy and prepare my presentation speech.  He was so proud of her accomplishments, the business she had built and her commitment to our industry.

I am going to miss my friend...along with many other family, friends and peers.  Mike was a friend to everyone he met and a good REALTOR.  Our community, board and industry will not be the same without him.  Prayers and sincerest condolences go out to Kathy, her children, her grandchildren and all who knew and miss Mike terribly.  It is time, once again, for our REALTOR community to rally around one of it's own and carry them through their darkest days.  Our REALTOR family is so very good at that.

Rest In Peace Mike Carl...You are already and will continue to be greatly missed...

Jeani, The words you used to describe Mike allowed me to feel the nice-ness of this human being. Very kind words indeed! Death from this world, no matter how prepared for it or no matter how sudden is ALWAYS incredibly hard to handle. When such a nice human being leaves this world, it is the people they leave behind who are going to miss ... that quick wit or ....that peaceful smile or... that subtle hug and the ones left behind will always have the memories but we must remember that he is enjoying eternal Happiness and I am sure he will be guiding all of his friends from above.

Sorry to hear about your friend.  Good realtors are a valuable commodity to us all.

I'm sure your years of experience with him has allowed you to assimilate his good nature and outlook into your own job and life.

So in that sense, his spirit lives on through you and everyone else that has been inspired by him.

Every time you do something that he taught you or that he influenced upon you, he continues to be there with you.

Just because his body or shell is gone doesn't mean that he's not always there around you.

I lost two good friends last year (one to cancer, and one to suicide).  My prayers are with you and with Mike's family.  This is tough stuff.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  Years ago, I lost my principal broker to a long bout with cancer.  While we were not close personal friends, he was a greatly admired mentor.  After so many years, I still remember his sage words and smile.  The memories still warm the soul.  May your memories comfort you and give you cause to smile for years to come.

After church today I went to Kathy and Mike's home.  I prayed in church today for the words to say and the actions to take when I went over there.  Funny thing was, one of the things the pastor said today was interesting.  He talked about when you ask someone what you can do for them and they say "just pray."  He said that we often feel like that isn't enough, when in fact it is.  He said never to dismiss it when someone tells you to just pray for them.  So we got to the house and I held Kathy and told her I needed to hug her and tell her how much I love her.  I asked her what I can do for her and you know what she said???  That's right..."Just pray...pray for me and my children."  Coincidence???  I think not!  God is awesome and answers our every need and I know that he will answer Kathy's...and mine.  Thank you all for your kind thoughts, words and prayers.  As Kathy said to me today, "We are all still in shock..."  I understand that, because I am too.

Jeani, My heart feels your sadness and I understand how this community is losing a good man who will be missed.  Treasure our time, we are only here for a short time and then we go to our "real home."  I am sure Mike is now sharing with so many others the greatness of our God.

Take care, and thank you for sharing this story with us of this wonderful man that we all can still learn how to be better stewards while here on this planet.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. When I first started out as a realtor, someone from the office took the unofficial role of mentoring he newbies. He had great compassion and great sense of humor. It was shock and tragedy when he was taken so abruptly from us. He had just finished a game of tennis and was stricken while he was cooling off.

It is never easy to lose a friend....

Thanks so much for the kind words of support and encouragement.  It has been a rough week and today was especially hard.  I thank God every day for my community, but it is days like today that I look at the wonderful people that make up our REALTOR family and I count my many blessings...these people carried me through my darkest days when I lost my Dad and I am honored to be a part of that family that will carry Kathy now.  Keep Mike's family in your prayers.

Blessings,

Jeani
