Great pictures...So your HI finches are a bit different...like the people, eh?
Sally, Our finches don't look like that, either! Must be something in your water, they are gorgeous birds!
Why don't we have those here on Kauai? Best wishes & Aloha Sally.
Wow, Sally! Those little guys are beautiful! I would never have guessed them to be finches, but ...
Around here we have the goldfinches and purple finches, but nothing like those. Thanks for sharing so I could learn yet another bird!
Hi Sally - Those are gorgeous finches! Obviously we don't have any Hawaiian finches in Fair Oaks, but we have some really colorful house finches (red and orange heads and chests) and goldfinches (canary yellow and black), as well as a lot of other birds, all of which eat together at our feeders. We love our birds and other wild critters, and our cats are fascinated by them.
Sally, the colors on those birds are gorgeous. Before I noticed where you were from I was wracking to try and remember if I had ever seen any of them around our area, Too cold. Very nice, thank you
Hi Sally - Great pictures. Reading the comments I see that these are finches. Our fincheds sure don't look lite that!
Sally, very funny ..... LOL
Our those your birds or did you just happen to be strolling by a pet shop :)
You have pretty birds there! We only have ugly birds :(
They're also called Java Sparrow, Java Rice Finch and so forth.

Range and Habitat
Java Sparrow: Found year round on Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii, common in urban areas. Prefers the grassy areas of parks and fields.
BTW Folks:
We got the feeder about a month ago...it took a couple weeks for the cardinals to find it....and the last week and a half the finches come for breakfast lunch and dinner!
So George...this is on my patio hanging from a iron rod hanger. :)
Sally,
Your pretty birds have really garnered the comments. Excellent. Very nice. :)
