Check this out.  Any publicity is good publicity, so they say.  Some of this, like our objective as home stagers is well defined in a brief way.

Some home stagers have been quite successful because of the talent they have and because of the business savvy they have, and I must agree, it is a new trend.  HGTV, RESA, and the many Home Staging Educators have helped as well to further our industry.

Here is the article -- 7 Emerging Jobs, By Rachel Zupek, CareerBuilder.com writer

The article lists 7 jobs that are emerging in this uncertain job market.

Guess what?  Home Staging is number 1.  Here is what I don't like about the article:

  • The other six emerging jobs have a job growth percentage tied to them, but not home staging.
  • I think the pricing indicated for home staging is totally off base
  • 5 of the 7 emerging jobs mentioned show an average annual salary (home staging annual salary?)
  • Now instead of getting a daily call from a wannabe stager seeking advice, I can expect 2 daily calls!  Or maybe not, as I again reiterate the pricing is way low IMHO!  Maybe now nobody will want to be a home stager! LOL

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE ARTICLE -- Any exposure to our industry is better than no exposure.

Thanks for sharing this article!  I find it very interesting in general.  you are right that helping more ppl know about the trend is beneficial to our industry as a whole...

I saw that article, too. Its description of staging is excellent, but I also found the section on expected salary to be completely off base. Maybe it will dissuade people from being stagers, but I think it may be more likely to create unrealistic expectations for those who might be thinking of having their homes staged. We shall see.

Karen ~ I like articles like this for helping to publicize home staging -- thanks for sharing it.  But staging an entire house for $500?  That example must be for an occupied home where the sellers already did all of the decluttering, cleaning, packing, painting, etc and the $500 was for a half-day of accessorizing and enhancing?

Karen, I agree that this is good exposure for the staging industry even if the pricing is lower than norm.  Thanks for posting the link.

Hi Melissa -- yes, in general it is good -- but again I question the ease and income.

Hey there Laurie -- MSN home Page is where it was posted; so I have to believe a lot of wanna be's read it today.  Glad you agree with me regarding the income.

Absolutely Maureen!  The pricing must apply to occupied home staging at best!  The fact that the article couldn't produce a percentage or a salary told me that the costs were just a guess.  Don't ya think?

Hi Holly -- yep!  Any news is good news!  But I do get tired of all the calls from people wanting to "pick my brain" to start a business.  It's a daily event for me.

Karen,

You are always full of great info. How nice it is our industry has been recognized. At least we are moving forward and not considered a dying profession.

Karen, Thanks for the info. I agree the $500.00 has to be for owner occupied. I'm telling my Realtors all the time that they are going to see an explosion of Home Stagers in our area. That's why I'm trying so hard to educate them on what to look for in a professional Home Stager.

Thanks for sharing Karen!  I think you are right - your daily phone calls from "wannabe" stagers just may double.  :)

Hi Anthea -- yes, I agree!  growing we are, and that is good.

Donna, you are smart cookie being the one to break ground in your area. Keep leading the way, my friend!

Hey Michele -- I bet you get your fair share of those calls as well :-)

Karen-it's nice to have the publicity but with HGTV showing that we'll go in and paint, clean, pack up everyone's clutter ourselves, rip out cabinets and replace them with new ones, etc, and this where we'll work for peanuts, they'll have to have a new reality show on Bravo called "The Real Stagers of ActiveRain"!

Stagers are popping up like weeds here, but I don't most are lasting that long.  These kind of articles do make it sound easy and a job anyone can do.

I agree the pricing must be based on owner occupied and is not realistic but the article is a good one and I like that we are placed as number one.  It's exposure and it's validation of our profession...it's a step in the right direction.

Aloha Karen,

Thanks for posting this. I'm a little incredulous about the statistics though. I don't know very many Home stagers who can make a sustainable income on staging alone, but who knows maybe someday.

Peace,
