The Snake Pit is the perfect starting off point for a day floating the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River.  One glorious August day I (pink) joined up with my sisters Ronna (blue), Kerri (green) their husbands and a bunch of my nieces and nephews for a flotilla adventure.  But the first item of business was a big breakfast at The Snake Pit to fortify us for a frolicking day in the sun.

The Snake Pit, AKA The Enaville Resort, has had a variety of owners and and a long and colorful history spanning back to 1880.  For nearly 130 years it has become a beloved local landmark and source of some of the best barbecue to be found for miles around.

Kerri and I managed to corner current owner Joe Peak for a fun conversation and a photo by the big stone fireplace.  Oh, if the walls could talk!  Rumor has it that The Snake Pit got it's name during a period of time it served as a brothel.  It wasn't until some time after he bought the place that someone clued Joe in on the skulls adorning the facade.  Seems that in yesteryear, when the red light bulb eyes were lilt up, women were available.  Joe did a little detective work, crawling into the attic, where he discovered that sure enough, there were electrical wires leading from the skull to a switch by the upstairs front window!

Located at the fork of The Coeur d'Alene River, The Snake Pit has served as a boom town bar, railroad layover, hotel, house of ill repute, and starting point for loggers and miners of yesteryear. Today, the Enaville Resort Snake Pit blends the old with the new.  Meet old friends and new in the rustic atmosphere while enjoying your favorite food and drink.

And if you see Joe, tell him Janna sent you!

How frustrating.  I feel your pain!  After all that work, I would be sitting there crying!  Hope you find it or figure out where they go, at least!

Something really weird is happening here...you have comments from another post in this post's comments.  What the heck?

Anyways...this Snake Pit  place looks awesome!  I love the history.  How cool that he found the wiring to validate the stories.  I love it!

When I first wrote this post, having spent considerable time and effort, something happened while I was trying to post it and it vanished into cyberspace!  Poof, it was GONE! Since I was getting it in under the deadline as an entry for the Business Challenge, I rewrote a little rant about what occurred, put up a few pictures and posted it as Members Only, just in the nick of time. While it was a Members Only rant, it received a few comments.  Last night I went in and edited that post with the real info.  This entry pales by comparison the the grand post I spent a couple hours writing, but I think you all get the idea!
