Moon Over Red Lodge - Painting by Mother Nature

I love watching the paintings of Mother Nature in the sky here in Big Sky Country.  Each morning at sunrise and each night at sunset is a different painting.  The following photo is a sunset painting taken in Red Lodge, Montana on August 2, 2009.  Thank you Mother Nature!

Gary, I could stare at that cloud until the sun went down! Exceptionally beautiful cloud photo. And the moon rising is striking as well.

Maria,

Thanks for the positive feedback.  It sure was interesting to stare at that cloud formation and seeing the clouds take various hues of white, red and purple at sunset.

The first pix makes a mountain look like a molehill.

The second makes outer space look warm and inviting.

Maybe you could send the latter to NASA to help them drum up support for more funding.

Mara's got it partially right...or why is our state's slogan..."Montana. Big Sky Country."

This photo just proves it. And what a great capture.....beautiful and breathtaking!

The first picture reminds me of some of the scenes surrounding Mordor in Lord of the Rings when it was starting to become active in the Fellowship of the Ring.  It was on TV this weekend.

Nice pictures.

Gerry - I hope you don't think I am featuring your post because of your comment, I featured it before I even read it!

Both of these photographs are breath-taking and what size mm did you use to capture the moon so big, 400?

Vegas Bob,

It was a combination of zooming on the photo (I believe my camera can zoom up to 12 times) and then cropping it using Picasa.   Thanks for the feature.  I love the Clouds at Activerain group!  :)

Debi,

The shape and postitioning of the clouds above the mountain (Mount Maurice) are what captived me in the first place to take this photo.  The sunset lighting and painting of the clouds sure added to the overall appeal of this photo.  :)
