water conservation

While over 70% of the earth's surface is covered with water, only 2.5% is fresh water, and less than 1% of Earth's freshwater, and only about .007% of all earth's water is actually available for human use and consumption.

Conserving water is of extreme importance as water is a nonrenewable resource that needs to be protected and conserved as without it life is not capable.

Conserving this valuable natural resource can be done by using just a little bit of common sense and minimal expense.  Here are some simple water conservation steps that you can take to immediately start saving water as well as money:

  1. Turn off water while brushing teeth.
  2. Only run washing machine and dish washer when full.
  3. If your driveway is dirty use a broom rather than a garden hose.
  4. Choose sustainable landscaping techniques
  5. Shorten your shower
  6. Install aerators on all faucets
  7. Use the garbage disposal sparingly- compost instead to save water
  8. Avoid overwatering

Great points to remember to conserve our most valuable resource!  We have a well, with a meter installed, we can only use this water inside.   We use about 30,000 gallons a year. People who water their lawns, can use that much water in a month - any landscaping that reduces that amount of water is a great idea!

Hi Mary, great to hear that you are doing your part to conserve as well.  As Realtors I think we should lead by example.  I have not watered for years- suistainable landscaping also is so much easier to maintain.
