Spam, Spam - Here a Spam, There a Spam - Someone Help Me!

By
Real Estate Agent

spamI haven't posted on ActiveRain in a little while.  I have been quite busy.  I have been assisting my clients with their Burlington County & Camden County, NJ Real estate needs.  In addition, I am in the processing of purchasing a new primary residence.

I do keep up with my active rain buddies on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn & TwitterQueens.  Lately, I have been getting many notices of comments posted on my old blog entries.  Its usually a bunch of gobbley gook about a subject unrelated to the post.  I report a concern to activerain, delete the post and then disable comments on the post.   The last time I looked, I had well over 100 posts.

Am I going to have to disable comments on all of my posts???

I know I haven't been around much, so if I missed this discussion, please forgive me and point me in the right directions.

Thanks

Have a great day

I just have to say, I NEVER knew there were that many flavors of SPAM. That is somewhat concerning !! I haven't disabled comments. I got about 5 or 6 spams, deleted them (after reporting them) and that was it.

Check out Jeremy Blanton's post from a week or two ago.

Thanks Steve,

I have been kinda afraid to leave the comments enabled after deleting them.  I was getting 2-3 of these a day.  I was on vacation and when I got back.....phewww... You know the rest of the story.  As far as the SPAM goes......I never knew there were so many flavors either.  Whoda thunk it :)

Leander - You can disable Outside / Anonymous comments under the Settings tab.  Do it for a week or so and re-enable them.  The spammers seem to move on in that time frame.

Maybe you should forward the posts to the ActiveRain support.

There may be something they can do about it, or at least research where it's coming from so the rest of us don't get hit.

I've gotten a few myself.

We too have received lots of spam. Just report the messages and delete them.

Leander,

It has been a month or two of spam in the rain. It has calmed down a bunch in the past few weeks.  Just click on "report a concern" so the AR peeps can fix it!

AR has been very procactive in resolving this issue. Report it to them and you may even earn a few extra points.

Everyone, Thanks for your help. It's good to know that it was not just me. Erik, I think you have the key to the solution.  I disabled non-member comments.  We will see things work.

Have a great day
