(There's a bit of a ramble up to my point, but bear with me.  I can assure you the payout is worth it!)

Today, one of my totally fabulous RESA-nj stagers shared an article with us all about an enterprising ASP in Dayton who was hosting a Home Seller's Seminar.  While the idea was good, it was the comments that distressed Jill.  So many suggestions as to how a seller could better redirect that $75 seminar fee into some cans of paint...you know the kind of thing.

I was outraged on this stager's behalf, naturally!  Her comments were really well-worded and she sounded like she was not only an excellent home stager but a good spokesperson for home staging in general!  [We need as many of those folks in our industry as we can get!]

So, off to her website I go.  It's nice.  Her company has a lot of people for a staging company (which is usually one or 2 folks, generally).  I click the Realtor's Corner.  This is what I find:-

Wow!  That is some giveaway!  We had just been talking about Membership and Loyalty programs at our last RESA-nj Meeting.  We had come up with "For every 3 jobs, I'll redesign a room in your house", Buy 4 consults get the 5th one free, BOGO (from Payless), etc.  Clearly, we were not thinking big enough.  This is soooo impressive.

What other incentive programs are out there?  Do share ~

That is pretty impressive!!  Gets the mind racing, doesn't it?

I believe this is the cruise that Staged Homes promotes.  A good way to advertise it!  8 jobs in a quarter from one source, would be worth it!  Another option might be to have a drawing and you get one chance for every job.

That's cool, Kim.  She is an ASP, so yes, my guess is that it's the same thing.  Does Staged Homes kick in anything to make the thing more affordable for the stager to buy the tickets?  Sure would be worth it.  Always easier to work with the same client than grow a new one!!

Yeah, for sure, Melissa, indeed, I'm still scratching my head -- "how" are they gonna do that, though, really?

Hi Juliet,  I spoke once with a boiler room type time share guy and he gave all kinds of promotional stuff away.  He explained how they bought them in bulk and that many folks never claimed them anyway.  Lots of sights out there dealing in this area.

Wow, I was shocked at those brazen comments at the paper. Must be disgruntled FSBO types, we all get those, we agents are rich and lazy!!!! ; )   That is one slick promotion. I was kinda shocked that such a good stager was working in Dayton. Akron Ohio is similar in size and we have no one that comes to mind. I would love to encourage staging with some support!

My, my, oh, my -- I don't like the message it sends regarding the industry in general, but there are Realtors in it for the frings benefits.  What ever happened to hard work and reapping the rewards of that?

Ok, I had to go back and lend my 2 cents into that abysmal arguement... the comments from the nut gallery were pretty saddening... sounds like we still have a long way to go...

I also added my 2 cents.  I am planning to do a similar seminar in my location.  The education needs to continue.

Thanks for bringing this forward Juliet.

All great comments, especially over at the newspaper!  Thanks Sharon and Melissa!  Awesome!  I love it that we stagers stick together.  Totally awesome!

Now Karen, I see you've been at the Cool Aid again there, girl!

Where do I sign up for the free cruise, Juliet.  I'll rearrange my accessories and take pictures!  :-)

To my knowledge, Staged Homes doesn't "kick" in anything.  These cruises are extremely discounted because, as I understand it, cruise lines are seldom booked solid.  That means that some cabins are vacant and vacant cabins mean no extra revenue in extras that each passenger usually purchases - such as drinks, souveneirs (sp?), etc.  It is better for the cruise lines to offer deeply discounted cruises through corporate partners than to not get anything at all with a vacant cabin.  I have heard that some RE franchises have similar promotions available to their agents.

A local new build neighborhood is doing a similar promotion - close before the end of summer and get a cruise.... interesting...

Keep in mind the recipient of these "gifts" still has to pay round trip airfare to the gateway departing city for the cruise (unless they happen to live within driving distance) as well as report it on their taxes.

Hey Juliet, "Whatever floats your boat" LOL..  I just love to make myself laugh...

Interesting incentive...  I'm sure we will see all kinds of interesting incentives from companies to "Come do business with us!" in the future.  We're still using our old tried and true incentive... "Let us prepare your property for sale and we will greatly increase the chances of a quick and more pprofitable sale"....

Does the double p cost extra, Gary? he he!

Ah Maureen, so true, and I expect they have to declare the windfall on their taxes like game show winners do?

My family and I went on one of these cruises while they were refinishing the woodwork and floors in our house after a fire.  Back in 2001.  It was cheaper to send us on a Carnival cruise than put us up in the local Hilton!  Fortunately it was before all the flu bugs hit Carnival.  We all lost tons of weight walking around the cruise ship.  The thing was HUGE!!

I still say it's a sexy offer.

Jane Ann is right, it's very inexpensive and they do have to pay airfare and you purchase them for a couple hundred dollars in bunches.  SO you purchase 10 for instance for $2500 or something and you have the stagers buy them as they need them.  You could offer them too, have to take one and see how good the cabins, etc, are etc.  Gee, I give a night out for dinner or a family pass to Marriotts for families ...but this, I'd be worried about the extra expense your "gift" costs them.

That sure is thinking outside the box!  I hope it pays off.  I still think that it is sad that selling faster and for more money isn't enough of an incentive!

Staged Homes has offered this for quite a while. Though it does sound enticing, I was never a fan because I would much rather have someone hire me for what I have to offer, than persuading them with something else that in the end, will just cost them more money.
