Integrity & Character

By
Real Estate Agent with HM Properties

I have been in the Real Estate business since 2002.  I really do enjoy what I do and the people who I work with and encounter.  When I started, the market was slightly depressed because of 9-11, but it quickly picked up to become the boom market that we so fondly remember.  Of course, times have been a bit more challenging lately.  I am fortunate enough to have a pretty steady business- but this is not the case for everyone.

My husband and I recently considered purchasing some vacation property.  As it was outside the state I am licensed in, we contacted an agent there to work with us.  She was fantastic and showed us around for quite a while.  We also stopped into some open houses when we saw the balloons out.  Every agent in them latched on and tried to get us to work with them.  This happened even after we told them that we were happily working with someone.  We got the 'Well, have you signed something yet? Because if not..." spiel.

This left me feeling gross and disappointed in these agents/so-called professionals.  If we continue to treat each other in this manner, we will continue to degrade our image in the public's eyes. Overall- I feel like the majority of our industry professionals do have a lot of integrity.  However; there is that small percentage that would throw their best friend under the bus in order to make a sale.  If we act this way towards each other, then what is to keep potential customers from thinking we will deal this way with them?

Let's all make a point to treat each other with the professional courtesy that we would like to be afforded.

Thought of the day: Do you follow the Golden Rule in your business dealings?

I would love to be your Realtor® in Akron Ohio!

Very sad story, Nicole! I hate to hear these and always look for positives in my fellow agents, especially. The first thing I ask at an open is, are you working with an agent? If yes, I ask who and then say, they are very good. Makes them feel good and after all, I want to sell the home, the selling side is just fine by me!!!
