The nightmare that homeowners face with Chinese Drywall

I recently read an article in our local newspaper about a homeowner who had to move out of his house because it had Chinese drywall.

Chinese drywall emits corrosive sulfur gas
. but the odor is not that of rotten eggs, it is more like vinegar.

It can make jewelry turn black, destroy computers, water heaters, smoke detectors, and air-conditioning units.  Even more distubing is the possibility of causing electical outlets to stop working without tripping the breaker.

It has not yet been determined what the health effects could be, but based on what is happening within the houses, I would not want to sleep in a house with Chinese drywall for even one night!

Some studies report that the gas that is emitted may affect the studs that are behind the drywall.

Neither homeowner's insurance or standard builder's insurance will cover the damage because it is a gas and not a faulty or defective material.

Wellington builder Dick Ashe sent a letter to some residents acknowledging that problem drywall had been traced to their homes.
